If you have tried to unlink and relink your account from the Dropbox app on your computer I would recommend making sure that you have no symlinks or anything else interfering with your files in the application.
You may also want to try disabling your anti-virus temporarily to see if this allows any syncing to take place.

Apparently you were right and the problem was that I had a link to a folder already existing in my dropbox. As soon as I deleted the link the sync started to work normally again.
At least in Ubuntu we normally don't use antivirus, is not necessary.
