Selective unsyncing in DropBox program not working:it doesn't delete unsync'd in local/system folder

I have read posts on how to free up space on my local physical (NVME) drive containing the DropBox folder but leave them in the DropBox cloud which is what I want to do on some Dropbox linked PC's that have smaller 2 TB drives, but leave them synced and residing on PC's with larger 4TB drives.   (I always move the DropBox folder from the OS/Windows C:\ partition User folder and set it up on another partition named DropBox (or drive) so system backups are not so big and don't take so  long as they do not contain the DropBox local files.)

Selective un-syncing in Desktop DropBox program (in Preferences/Sync/Selective Sync/Modify is not working for me.  De-selecting a folder does not delete the de-selected folder in the local physical folder. nor in the system/virtual on that PC.  What am I doing wrong?

Can't I just de-select a folder in the Desktop program "Modify Syncing" box and then go to the physical drive and delete the same folder?  If I do that it will no longer sync and so will not tell the cloud to delete it (as I want it to remain in the cloud for other PC's) and it will be gone and the space freed up on the local physical drive and not re-filled up as that particular PC is no longer setup to sync that folder and re-populate it.

Hey tambourineman, let's see what we can find together about this!

Would you mind clarifying the version of the desktop app you're using on your end, along with the app's syncing status

You can find this by hovering your mouse over the little Dropbox icon, next to your WiFi on your task bar.

You also mentioned something about "modify syncing" can you send over a screenshot in order for me to have a visual of what you mentioned, please?

    Keep me posted!

Thanks so much for your quick reply.

Here's a link to info (screen capture pictures) that may help (I couldn't figure out how to embed/attach image files to this reply so I put them in Dropbox.)

Regarding the one entitled "Manage hard drive space" I have not tried that due to the (confusing to me) comment "file will still appear on your computer."  Does this mean just a small sized link file to them is on my local physical drive?  This would be OK).  Is this the one I should use rather than the "Choose folders" to sync?  As an aside Dropbox seems to be extra busy syncing and indexing

Hey tambourineman, thanks for the update.

I removed your link, to prevent excessive traffic in your account, since this is a public forum.

It looks like the application is trying to sync several changes that have happened in your Dropbox folder, so before jumping to conclusions, I think we'll need to wait until it shows as "up to date".

You just need to check it once in a while, to make sure it's actually syncing and that it's not stuck.

Once the Dropbox icon shows that it's "up to date", check if the folders you unsynced, are still present in your Dropbox folder and let us know.
