Folder now empty on Dropbox

I started deleting files from a folder for more storage on dropbox, but then decided to save it to my desktop instead. Afterwards, I noticed that the desktop folder was now empty and so was the folder in dropbox. Bizarrely, the files I originally started to delete are still there in the 'deleted' folder. But the folder which held the files I wanted to keep, is now empty. There are no files to undelete, as they are not there. Any suggestions?

  • Hi HCeeP, if the files are not visible on the events page or the deleted files page, then it wouldn't be possible to recover them, unfortunately, even with a rollback of the account.

Hey HCeeP, thanks for reaching out to the Dropbox Community.

Would you mind clarifying a few things for me? Like, how did you delete the files? Using our website?

When referring to the "desktop folder" are you referring to a folder you just created on your desktop to move the files to? Or your Desktop (system) folder?

And do you see the deleted files in your deleted files page in Dropbox?

Let me know and we'll go from there.

      Hi,

Thanks for getting back! I deleted some files from a dropbox folder to create more space in my account. I then moved this folder onto my desktop which contained the files I wanted to keep.

But afterwards, I saw that the new desktop folder was missing most of the files and was basically empty

I checked on 'events' (to check what files had been deleted) and only saw those files which I had deleted on purpose, and not the files I wanted to keep. I'm sure these files must be somewhere. I tried doing 'rewind' but only got the empty folder.

Could someone help me restore my account to where it was at midnight on Saturday 22 July 2023? Then I would have all the original files, and can start again.

Thanks for the additional info, HCeeP.

Where did you delete the files from, though? Did you do it from the website or your local Dropbox folder?

And were these files synced to your account? Meaning, were you previously able to access them using the website?
