1510 TopicsCan I manually limit the number of older versions for my Dropbox Backup files?
Hi everyone, I'm using Dropbox Backup and I would like to understand how version control works. Is it possible to limit the number of backup versions per file? For example, can I set Dropbox to keep only the 10 most recent versions of a file, automatically deleting the oldest one when a new version is created? Alternatively, do I need to manually delete old versions? Is there an option for automatic deletion based on the age of a version (e.g. after a certain number of days)? Thanks in advance for your help!42Views0likes3CommentsCan deleted photos be retrieved from Deleted Files?
3 days ago I deleted some individual in-named, un-filed single iPhone uploaded pictures. A few minutes ago I tried retrieving some from the deleted files section and after adjusting the filters, nothing came up. (1)Is there a grace period for retrieving? (2)Are deleted files the only items retrievable and not individual un-filed pictures? Iâm a bit confused as to (3)what the difference between files and phone uploads and camera uploads are other than the obvious, deleting un-filed un-named singles individually to files having a name, files holding multiple pictures and ability to delete a whole file with pics all at once. (5)But with it being called â Deleted Filesâ, are they all considered the same when deleting and retrieving them? It seems that Dropbox puts all my uploaded unfiled and un-named singles under camera uploads or phone uploads, (6)which I suppose, they could be considered pre-named Dropbox files (7)Not sure if I can delete pictures as a whole from these (files?) (8)because when opened, the two prenamed dropbox file formats look different than that of a file I named. (9)Dropboxâs Camera uploads and Phone uploads (files?) would make more sense to me if i uploaded photos with a secondary device like a Nikon camera orâŠ..a Cannon. But all my Dropbox photo uploads are sourced from my iPhone camera. So that too is a bit confusing because I donât choose where my singles go. They just go. Sometimes they go to both prenamed Dropbox (files?) Iâve had Dropbox for 10 years. (10)Looking for answers.29Views0likes4CommentsAllow us to resize the chat window. Also, my files have been deleted after 30 days. How?
Make the chat window to have ability to pop out and move to another screen if necessary. It's crazy to not have this capability when most chat windows allow resizing, pop-out, etc. so your reps and the customers can see what is being typed versus a tiny window that cannot be resized. This should have been done years ago, especially given you will NOT talk to anyone that isn't a paid business subscriber, no matter the reason. In my case my plan is all screwed up and i'm being charged $199 a year and my data gets deleted after 30 days?!? Also have a TBI and you guys have created so much difficulty just trying to get basic answers as to why and how this occurred. Since you will not talk to customers even with the professional plan and the one higher, please fix the chat box so it can be moved out of the way and/or at least resizable within the app window at a minimum. Hello. A few weeks ago I noticed that I lost all my Dropbox Paper documents. I have been using this application for years and I really like it. The documents contain important information for my work and it is a big problem for me. After a few days, some of the documents started to appear again, but it is only a small part. I can't find an official statement from Dropbox anywhere. I tried the usual procedures and those I found on the forums, but nothing helped. A small part of the documents came back, but the vast majority of them are gone. Can anyone please advise me or direct me? This is an unpaid service, I have not noticed any changes to the rules that could explain anything. Thank you287Views0likes29CommentsUser restrictions on bulk deletion or moving
It would be great if it were possible to set a user so they cannot perform bulk deletions or moves of files. One of the users, who does not have admin rights, accidentally moved a folder with 350,000 files. As a result, we lost the functionality of the links when returning the folder back. It would therefore be great if some users could be restricted so that it is not possible to move or delete files beyond a certain quota.273Views2likes4CommentsMissing files from my account but I didn't delete them
Hello I have Dropbox Basic I had two dropbox folders where I saved short videos from the same dropbox account every month (15th day aprox.) one short video captured from outside security camera to dropbox. Now these files are gone and I have not deleted them myself...đ€ There is nothing in deleted files folder either. This malfunction may have occurred more than 30 days, happened maybe ~2+ months ago because I have the february 2025 file saved. Can I get these files back, there where many years snapshots (~5 Years * 12 snapshots)?Solved47Views0likes4CommentsHow long does Dropbox keep my files?
Deleting files is something we all do pretty regularly, whether itâs the end of a project, a bit of clean up and trying to save some space or youâve just had enough of some of the stuff youâve got saved, there are a million and one reasons to send files to the recycle bin. Weâve all suffered from momentary lacks in concentration and done things we didnât mean to do, so we have some barriers in place to make sure that when you click that delete button, itâs not the end of the road for the files in question. At this point, your files are still recoverable, youâll just need to be quick as there is a limit to the time they will be kept. When you delete a file from your Dropbox account, it will no longer appear in any of the folders that you can see in your Dropbox account. This doesnât mean itâs gone, it means the deletion process has started, but it will still be retrievable until after your recovery window ends. What is a recovery window? Good question! Your recovery window is a period of time that your files are still available to you after you delete them. The length of your recovery window depends on the plan you have. If youâre on a Basic, Plus or Family plan, your recovery window is 30 days. If youâre on a Professional or Team Plan, your recovery window is 180 days. Once your recovery window is over, your files will be permanently lost so if you do find yourself in a position where you have accidentally deleted something, donât waste any time recovering it, because once itâs gone, itâs gone. Unfortunately, upgrading your account to Professional after your 30 day recovery window is up will not help you to save files, we can do lots of things but time travel isnât one of them and we canât retrospectively apply these recovery conditions. We also donât hold onto any of your deleted files for longer than we say we will â because it would be kind of weird if we did. What if I havenât logged in for years? Just like we donât hold onto your deleted files for any longer than we say we will, we also donât keep your files if youâre no longer active on Dropbox. From time to time, we will delete inactive accounts, or accounts that have had no activity within the last 12 months. Before an inactive account is deleted, weâll send an email explaining the process to whatever email address is connected to the account. If you want to keep you account and anything that is in it, all you have to do is login to the account and weâll know not to delete it. Once your account is deemed to be inactive, it will be deactivated and anything saved in it will be deleted 90 days after you reach 12 months of inactivity. Unlike when you delete a file from your account, there is no recovery window for these files so once theyâre gone, theyâre gone. The easiest way to make sure your account doesnât get deleted is to log in to Dropbox at least once every 12 months. Weâre always keen to know how our Community members use their Dropbox accounts. I get these emails, "You recently deleted 5997 files from your Dropbox account.". Since I dont remember deleting anything I try to figure out what it was. When clicking See deleted files I get this: System.Runtime.Extensions.dl Deleted 17.62KB System.Runtime.InteropServices.dll Deleted 89.12KB System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Unsafe.dll Deleted 15.12KB System.Reflection.Extensions.dll Deleted 15.12KB System.Reflection.Emit.dll Deleted 39.17KB System.Resources.Writer.dll Deleted 17.12KB System.Runtime.CompilerServices.VisualC.dll Deleted 17.62KB System.Reflection.TypeExtensions.dll Deleted 20.17KB It's impossible to know what was deleted. Would be amazing if you could provide a path as well. Then I could see what the hell has been deleted. Now it's impossible.34Views1like3Comments
