I'm having trouble getting Dropbox to work on a customers device. It's a brand new Win11 laptop. They have a business-subscription with several seats, of which they are the administrator. I can log in to the Web Portal without issues. Installing and signing in into the app from other devices also works. Whenever I try to sign in to the app on that laptop, it appears to try to log in before it suddenly restarts itself and is logged out again, just long enough for the Dropbox folder to be added in windows explorer, without contents. When I click on "Open Dropbox" in the login page, Dropbox sometimes gives me the error "Couldn't complete sign in. Please try again.", however I'm unsure if this is actually related. I have tried to follow these troubleshooting steps already: Performing an advanced reinstall according to the guide provided by Dropbox Setting fully reset, blank MS Edge as default browser, so the login page opens there instead Resetting the account password Deleting duplicate entries of registered devices Uninstalling the app (with extra steps according to advanced reinstall) and installing the MS-Store-version instead I'm at my wits end. I'd hate to have to try to reset the device entirely only to face the same issue again. Kind regardsSolved52Views0likes5CommentsI made a folder online-only, but if I delete it from my computer, it gets removed from Dropbox.
I have reviewed the discussion questions and didn't see what is needed. My laptop storage is almost depleted. I have marked a folder (using File Explorer) as Online Only. When I tried to delete the folder from my laptop using file explorer, I received a message saying it would also be deleted from my Dropbox Account. How can I make sure the folder does not delete from the online Dropbox system. Thanks LloydSolved82Views0likes6CommentsWhy was the way screenshots were handled changed?
Me and my friends question what drove the people behind this software to break something intentionally like that? I work as a Quality Assurance expert, and can only see this change as sabotage. When I press "PrtSc" I want the image to be copied into my clipboard. The fact that it was saved into the screenshots folder wasn't always desired, but I could deal with it (always cleaned up that folder once a month). But now that doesn't happen. I get so many extra steps, and if I opt out of it, I'm left with nothing. Sure, I could just install a different software for making screenshots, but that seems so stupid to do, given what worked before!210Views3likes12CommentsThe Dropbox right-click options are gone from my Mac's Finder.
I recently changed the location of my Dropbox folder and now I no longer have my right-click menu. Dropbox is running and everything has been synced. I've restarted and reinstalled dropbox and it did not fix my issue. Latest version of Dropbox: 221.4.5365 MacOS: 15.446Views0likes6CommentsSync results under "Your Activity" show's yesterday's synced files not today's.
I can see syncing occurring with the dropbox notification icon on the Mac. When I look, syncing runs. When it completes, instead of showing what was just synced, it only shows files synced the previous day under the Yesterday heading. Those synced today or moments ago ought to show up under the Today heading, but nothing ever shows there. To be clear, the recently synced files do not show up under Yesterday, either. This seems like a bug. Because dropbox sometimes takes time to get around to syncing on the desktop, I need to be able to check if it recently synced any files. This behavior of never displaying recently synced files in the Your Activity list is disappointing. The image was captured mid-day, less than 10 minutes after syncing a dozen files. Note that Yesterday heading shows files underneath. The Today heading shows none of the files just synced.42Views0likes5CommentsI have an encrypted exFAT external drive, but I don't see the prompt to back it up to Dropbox.
I just bought a SanDisk 2TB drive and encrypted it with their software. There is currently only about 30GB of data on it. When I plug it in, I do not get the "Do you want to back up this drive" message, tried multiple times. The drive format is exFAT and it is attached to my PC. Any suggestions on how to get it backed up to Dropbox?66Views0likes7CommentsWhy am I not eligible for Dropbox on File Provider?
I havea macbook on which I had the dropbox app installed with a different account that was running perfectly well with File Provider. 3 months ago I tried out some other solutions for syncing files and cloud storage so I completely removed the app from my macbook and deleted my account. Since then I have come back to dropbox but it doesn't let me use File Provider anymore. In the settings of the app it says im not eligible to receive the update. This has caused me some issues with online only files that are visible but not openable on my macbook. I was wondering if there was anything I could do to get the app to use File Provider. Does it maybe not want to use File Provider for the duration of my trial? I am thinking about maybe copying the previous version of the app from a Time Machine backup and forcing the File Rpovider like that but it does seem a bit far fetched.60Views0likes5CommentsBring back File Request option in File Explorer.
I used to be able to initiate a "Request Files" by right clicking on the file I wanted the documents to go into. This is more efficient that having to go to the web version, as I 99.9% work out of the File Explorer on my PC. Please bring back the option to "Request Files" in the right click menu.3.3KViews14likes50CommentsThere's a .canary file causing syncing issues on my Dropbox app.
Hey all! My local backup software failed out yesterday - it reported that there was a file in use in Dropbox. I poked around and found that ".canary" in my Dropbox cache was marked with the syncing icon (round blue arrows). There was also a file "canary.enabled", but that one seemed to be static. When I delete the ".canary" file, it simply reappears. This file doesn't show up on my online account (natch). I can see it on my two linked computers, my desktop (Win 11) and laptop (Win 10). Both are running app version 214.3.5104. I have a basic (free) account. Anyone know what's going on with this canary file? Why can't I delete it? Where did it come from? I'd like to clear it so my local backup will run, but I'm also concerned that this might indicate a security issue, as I have no idea where this file came from. Thanks for anything you can offer!879Views0likes33CommentsI changed my user name after installing the Dropbox app and now it won't launch
I have a new laptop (MacBook Air - M4), running the latest Sequoia. I migrated everything over from my former system, which included Dropbox. Day-1, all was running fine. Day-2, I needed to change the names of the System Users. I followed the instructions from Apple, which includes changing the home folder name in "Users" and then the corresponding account name field(s) in System Settings, Users & Groups, The home folder path on Day-1, with the original name, was /Users/keri_1/ On Day-2 -- after the renaming -- the new (& current) home folder path is /Users/keri/ Now when I launch DropBox, it is looking for this path to grant permissions: /Users/keri_1/.dropbox and immediately gives the message that "Dropbox needs to change permissions for the Folder: /Users/keri_1/.dropbox" which it cannot find since that path name no longer exists. Clicking OK, the next message I get is "Couldn't start Dropbox" and it shuts down. How do I get DropBox to correct the path it is trying to use? I have contacted Support and we have exchanged several emails, including some Terminal commands to run, which did not correct this issue.Solved90Views0likes6Comments
