Congratulations Dropbox! You've just put the nail in the coffin of all W7 users who prefer not to be spied on and constantly used for data scraping! Well done. If the constant scaremonger nagging about running out of space, the constant begging to upgrade, the incessant app updating demands, the constant USB device interrogation upon connection wasn't enough of an incentive to finally ditch Dropbox for good, then the cutting off of users of a still perfectly good and functional, non-spyware infested OS will be the last straw. Thank you Dropbox for giving me the incentive to go to your competitors instead and get out of your ever more bloated crapware ecosystem. Sometimes, people need a little push to get away from what's comfortable and familiar, even though they suspect just how bad that relationship is for them. I thank you Dropbox for giving me this little push. Goodbye.6.1KViews7likes26CommentsUnlink Dropbox on laptop and relink to another account (OSX)
I am logged into a dropbox account on my laptop (desktop app) and should leave this account to connect to an other account. When I sign out of the first account under preferences in the desktop app, the app closes. When opening the app again, I'm automatically logged into the same account again. How can I connect to the second account? Even de-installing and re-installing the desktop app did not fix this. Any idea why this happens and how to solve it? Thanks for all your input, TomSolved203Views0likes6CommentsUnable to launch the desktop app on Windows 10
So I have had the same problem I see listed elsewhere. All of a sudden I am unable to launch the desktop app. If I uninstall and reinstall, it will work that one time. I saw instructions that required use of the registry editor for advanced reinstallation. IS THAT REALLY DROPBOX’S SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM?! That is truly crazy and unacceptable. If there is a less invasive solution, I would love to hear it.143Views0likes1CommentIs there a way to stop using File Provider?
I have an M1 Mac Mini with Dropbox installed since Monetary, and I think it automatically started using File Provider, because it installed the DB folder in Cloudstorage. I just got a Macbook Air, running Ventura. I downloaded and installed Dropbox on the Air, and it asked if I wanted to use File Provider. I selected No, and it installed the DB folder in my User folder, which is great. I prefer this, since there are issues with using File Provider. I wanted to do the same on my Mac Mini, so I upgraded my Mini to Ventura. Then I thoroughly uninstalled Dropbox (I needed to use Terminal to get rid of the DB folder from the Cloudstorage folder), restarted my computer, installed Dropbox again, but it automatically installed using File Provider, putting the darn DB folder in the darn Cloudstorage folder again. Ugh! It's like some preferences were still on my computer, but nowhere I can think to look. I did remove the DB folder from Application Support as well. I also checked Activity Monitor as well to make sure nothing DB was running. Bottom line: How can I revert back to NOT using File Provider, and not having the DB folder in the Cloudstorage folder? I know it's possible not to use File Provider in Ventura 13.6.1 because this is happening right now on my M1 Macbook Air running the same exact OS as my Mini. DB version is also the same on both computers (187.4.5691)2.3KViews0likes4CommentsHow to completely uninstall the Dropbox desktop app from my Mac OS
I indicated with a click a year ago that I might like to try a free trial of Dropbox. I tried it, I hated it, and I can't get rid of the damned invasive and intrusive program. Upon opening my MacBook Air, the entire display is covered with Dropbox folders and pop ups screaming that my life would be fulfilled if I tried this or that Dropbox feature. Getting all this Dropbox crap off my screen takes several clicks to close the home screen and the several subscreens and popups blocking my screen. AND: I've searched everywhere on the Dropbox website, and I can't find even the tiniest hint of how to delete the app, or disable it, or block it, or send it to where the sun don't shine. HELP ME OUT OF THIS INTRUSIVE DROPBOX HELL!152Views0likes1CommentI can't remove Dropbox from Windows 10 explorer on old PC
I am cleaning up my old Windows 10 laptop, in order to hand it over to the new owner. Obviously I don't want the new owner to be able to access my drop box, so I need to remove it. However, whatever I try, it keeps showing up in Windows file explorer. I already tried the solutions proposed in this thread:https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Apps-and-Installations/Can-t-remove-dropbox-folder-icon-from-Win-File-Explorer/m-p/387364#M25771 It didn't work, even after reboot the Dropbox folder still appears infile explorer. How do I get rid of it?? Note 1st thing I tried was Add or Remove programs, and look for Dropbox. It is not in the list of programs.150Views0likes1CommentI can't configure dropbox on Ubuntu 24.04
Hi, I am required to use Dropbox for work on an Ubuntu 24.04 system, which is apparently supported as "Ubuntu 22.10 or higher" I followed the instructions at https://www.dropbox.com/install-linux and it installed and logged me in successfully, and a Dropbox icon appeared in the top bar. It then began syncing all folders with hundreds of GB of data, it wants to copy the entire company Dropbox to my local system. Clicking the Dropbox icon does nothing, it does not respond. I am unable to stop the sync, and unable to configure Dropbox. Uninstalling Dropbox following the instructions at https://help.dropbox.com/installs/uninstall-dropbox failed to stop Dropbox actually running, now there is a zombie process that is still trying to sync hundreds of GB of data to my laptop. Why is this broken, who is responsible for testing this software? How can I repair my system?784Views1like2CommentsPlease confirm that deleting the Dropbox account will not remove photos from iPad or Phone.
Hi there, I am working with a client who wishes to delete his dropbox account. It is currently storing copies of files from his laptop, and photographs from his iPad and mobile. I have copied the files from the DropBox folder of his laptop to a folder on his C drive. Please can someone definitively confirm that DropBox mobile simply creates a back-up of photos and does not remove them from the device. Please confirm that deleting and closing his DropBox account will have no impact on the photos stored on his phone. He has never deleted any photographs from his mobile that he wishes to keep so that is not an issue. Every web search I have done confirms the above, but none of the information is direct from DropBox and the chat bot pre-programmed responses are not applicable.
