Shared Files
154 TopicsRandom unrecognized file in Recents Dropbox, that I can't remove.
I have a file that was apparently shared with me that I can only open in dropbox from the recents section, all files, or menu bar on mac. The file does not show up in any of the folders even though it says it's saved in "dropbox." When I attempt to delete/remove the file I do not have any options that allow that. I searched for a shared folder but there are none and strangely this file doesn't show up in the shared section. It's some stupid sexual anime ( which of course my kids vehemently deny knowing anything about) so I am a little concerned about hacking but the file info says it was shared with me back in April and I've had no suspicious activity in my account. Is this a support issue or am I just missing how to get rid of this file?23Views0likes2CommentsHow to create a shared area for non-Dropbox users.
I am needing to provide a place for a couple of videographers to upload files to my Dropbox so I can include them in my edits. When I created a shared file and sent it to them, they respond that they are asked to create a Dropbox account of their own to access my link. I just need them to upload their video files to my account - they don't need to have their own Dropbox accounts. Is there a way around this requirement to create accounts for these non-Dropbox users to access a shared directory?23Views1like1CommentFolder in "shared" that is not shared
In left-side menu I go to "shared" where I can see all my shared file/folder. In there I see a folder that has not active shared option (link or user). Maybe it had previously, but not today. So whay I still have this folder in the "shared" section of my account? If I click on the 3-dots menu I see "remove from Dropbox" and nothing like "remove from Sharing". I dont undestand the logic behind this. Could you advise please?Solved23Views0likes3CommentsBetter Sharing & Better Branding
Dropbox is wonderful -- I've paid for professional for ten years -- but it could be immensely better.. You will make more money if you do these two related things:) (1) The branding feature is way too basic. The options seem like they're from 1995. It would be wonderful if we had more options and more customization. Specifically, if we could create different branding for different customers, it would be amazing. (I use Dropbox to share pictures and videos with my customers. I want to put THEIR branding on these files and galleries, NOT MINE.) (2) The experience of RECEIVING shared files is HORRIBLE, for the people who RECEIVE the links or transfers. Even using the current branding options, Dropbox still puts its OWN branding on the page – this is confusing for the receiver. It's messy and ugly, and it takes up too much screen space. They think they have to create a Dropbox account to receive the files. You are trying to get sales, through me, a paying customer -- that is **bleep**ty. Please take all your branding and sales prompts off these pages, for us paying customers. Also, browsing through pictures on shared links is a slow and not-intuitive process. It would be amazing if you could make it function like[removed per the Dropbox Community Guidelines]. These companies create beautiul galleries, and customers can easily create lists of their favorite pictures. You could actually steal all their business if you did this. I am 100% certain your customers would love these features:)22Views0likes1CommentI've left comments for some students, but they can't see them after sharing the files.
I have made comments on some students' papers. They are visible on my end. They are also visible on my professors' end. They are NOT visible when they share them back to the students. If we download the files to make sharing easy for the students, there are no comments anymore for the students to see.19Views0likes1CommentExternal users prompted to join team when shared a file
Dirty practice from Dropbox to prompt a recipient of a shared file to be asked to join your team. This prompt confuses the recipient of the file who requests to join the team and therefore Dropbox gains another paid user. This user (from another company) if added to the team by an overworked I.T. dept who isn't paying attention, then gains access to the company files. Please re-work your prompt system and remove the option to request access to join the team. We can add members to the team from the admin console and this is the most secure way to do this. This fault is obviously a great way for Dropbox to gain 'accidental' paid users at the expense of security. I receive a few of these emails each month and each time it's just Dropbox testing myintelligence again to see if I will accidentally add a totally random person to access our company files by mistake. This is absolutely not secure file storage and is designed to be misleading. It is frustrating that Dropbox is actively phishing. Disabling the ability of a user to request to join a team (from outside your company) would resolve this. It is hard to imagine a scenario where you would want to add (and pay for) an external user to your team. If you did need this feature, it would be a deliberate action and the cost involved would need to be approved (an ongoing subscription - the worst kind of cost). Email requests from external users would of course be ignored and make no impact on the purchase of the license. The current short term fix i can suggest is just setting Dropbox emails to block/spam/autodelete. Thanks for reading this far.260Views0likes5CommentsHow can I take ownership of shared files?
I'm taking over a role and the person who is handing over to me has all of the files on their dropbox which we have shared. they want to delete the files off their drop box. How do i take ownership of those files onto my drop box?Solved105Views0likes2CommentsI can't share any files on my account, why?
Hi Dropbox Community, I’m reaching out as a long-time Dropbox user of over 10 years, and I’m currently in a tough situation. Yesterday, I received a message saying, "We’ve interrupted your sharing activity because your files might contain phishing content," - I cannot share ANY folders or files and this is really going to impact my small business. I rely heavily on Dropbox to share essential documents like PDFs, Word files, and Excel spreadsheets with my clients DAILY. This interruption has left me unable to collaborate, and it will undoubtedly cause many embarrassing moments. I’m worried it will make me look unreliable to my clients, which is definitely not the impression I want to give. The potential effect on my business and income is quite concerning. I appreciate all of Dropbox's security measures, but I’m reaching out to see if anyone here has faced a similar issue or has advice on how to resolve this quickly. Restoring my file-sharing capabilities is critical for my operations. Thank you for any help or insights you can provide!152Views0likes1CommentWatermarking issues
I upgraded my dropbox so I could add watermarks to my images. I set up folder automations to add watermark words to everything I added to that folder. At first, it wasn't working. I'd add images and they stayed the same. Then out of nowhere it worked. But it added 2 copies to the folder, one original and one watermarked. No big deal really. Then it changed on its own to only adding one copy. But it was a watermarked copy so I was happy with that. Then the next day I transferred and watermarked a handful of images and then in the middle of it all, dropbox stopped watermarking altogether. It has now been another 2 days and it still will not watermark. I've tried creating a new folder with a new automation, but still no watermarking is happening. Any thoughts on what the issue could be? Why was it so inconsistent from the start?196Views0likes3Comments
