Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could customize our Dropbox folders to make them more visually appealing and easier to organize? I think adding more options to personalize folders could make a big difference, and I’d love to hear what others think about this idea! Here are a few features I’d suggest: Folder Colors: Imagine being able to color-code your folders—so much easier to spot what you need at a glance! Custom Icons: A simple icon, like a music note for your playlists or a book for your eBooks, could make folders feel more intuitive. This icon could be applied to the already existing folder image, or replace the folder with just an icon. Upload Your Own Images: Personalize your workspace with photos or unique images as folder covers—practical and fun! These tweaks wouldn’t just look great; they’d make organizing and navigating files so much smoother. Plus, other platforms already offer similar options, and it would be awesome to see Dropbox join in! If you think these features would be helpful, let’s make some noise and get Dropbox to consider them. What are your thoughts? Do you have other ideas for folder customization? Let’s chat in the comments and show the Dropbox team how much we’d love this!10Views2likes2CommentsAdd Folder Sorting by Creation Date
I would like to suggest a feature that could greatly enhance the functionality and usability of Dropbox: the ability to sort folders by their creation date in addition to the existing sorting options. Why This Feature is Needed: 1 Efficient Drive Management: When cleaning out or reorganizing storage, sorting folders by their creation date provides a clear timeline of when content was added, helping users identify older, potentially obsolete folders. 2 Improved File Organization: This feature would allow users to understand the chronological context of their data, which is especially useful for archival purposes. 3 Consistency Across Systems: Many file managers (e.g., Finder on macOS and File Explorer on Windows) already offer this option. Having it in Dropbox ensures a seamless workflow between local and cloud storage. Feature Details: Add "Creation Date" as a sortable column in both the web interface and desktop applications. Ensure folders can be sorted by creation date, just like individual files. Include this option in APIs for developers who work with automated tools or scripts. Potential User Benefits: Faster identification of outdated data, leading to more efficient storage usage. Enhanced organizational tools for power users and businesses managing extensive files and folders. Thank you for considering this request. I believe this feature would add significant value to Dropbox and make it even more indispensable for users like me who rely on it for efficient file management. Please let me know if further details or examples would be helpful.17Views1like4CommentsTricks for exporting file names to an Excel spreadsheet as index.
I have tried Zappier and other automations for exporting folders, subfolders, and even the files names to an excel spreadsheet to create an index or guide, even with the link for an easier access. Can anyone share a way to do such export or copy paste hack?581Views0likes4CommentsMass Deletion - Alert page, File Activity log, and admin Content view need more information
Trying to undo a mistaken Team Folder move outside of Dropbox, in a Team account. - There is an alert athttps://www.dropbox.com/team/admin/security/alerts/which lists the affected folders, their size, and number of files, and the date of deletion. However, there's no way to see the containing folder path (mouseover the folder for a tooltip would be nice), and clicking the folder name/icon should go to the containing folder underhttps://www.dropbox.com/team/admin/team_folders/home/in order to restore the file. Instead the only action option on this page is "Check team activity to see all files". The blue Restore button just goes to the same view, instead of providing the ability to undo the entire action. - The Activity view athttps://www.dropbox.com/team/admin/activitydoes provide path tooltips for some activities, but for the Activity type "Removed user/group from shared file/folder" or "Deleted shared folder from Dropbox", does not provide the containing path. An export of the log also does not. This makes locating the folders to restore more difficult. - The admin Content pagehttps://www.dropbox.com/team/admin/content/homeis effectively a file browser, but quite limited even compared to the default Dropbox file view. Especially, there is no Date Modified, and viewing the Deleted Files, there's no Date Deleted which would be very helpful.408Views0likes2CommentsCamera uploads organizing: adding folders in that folder.
I need to know specifically how to organize photos and videos in the CAMERA UPLOAD folder. If for example i create a VIDEO folder in the CAMERA UPLOADS folder while on my DESKTOP PC and then move all movie extensions to it, will that sync so that my ONLINE Dropbox copy of CAMERA UPLOADS looks the same (would both now have a folder called VIDEO containing all the movies)? Second, IF I DO the above, will dropbox then sync those same files back in from my phone (assuming it does not see them as they are in a new folder within CAMERA UPLOADS called VIDEO) or, does it only import into the dropbox CAMERA UPLOAD folder the new photos i take with my phone? Thank you A third possibility is that it is allowing creating of the new folder called VIDEO in to the folder called CAMERA UPLOADS but not actually moving those items. Just showing them in there....23Views0likes1CommentThe Automation feature does not work for me - nothing happens when files are added to the folder
I'd first like to say in advance, thank you to anyone who posts here and is willing to lend a hand. 2nd I'd like to make it clear automation has never worked for me. All the other messages I've seen here regarding automation have to do with the fact it has stopped working, or it partially works. It's never worked at all for me. All I'm trying to do is simple audio file conversion. I want everything converted to Mp3. I have the automation set, and when files are added, nothing happens. I've tried dragging files straight to desktop page, I've tried moving files in from the smart phone app, I've tried different browsers, same result. No, I haven't tried clearing browser cache, because never once in my life has that ever worked when it was suggested as a potential fix, so I don't bother with it. I've tried creating the same automation in different folders, I've tried creating a new folder with the automation enabled from the get-go. Nothing works. Just for experiments sake, I also tried to setup a different kind of automation to rename the files, to see what would happen. That doesn't work either. I am willing to clear browser cache if someone REALLY thinks that's the solution here. The only way I'm able to convert the files is manually. I'll right click the file and select "save as" -- "Mp3". Then it will convert immediately. Below is a screen shot of the automation I've created. Again, thank you to anyone who offers some assistance.237Views0likes12CommentsAudio transcription malfunction, hard line breaks partway across every line
Recently when I have copied .wma audio transcripts from Dropbox to a Word document, the text inserts a hard line break on every line of the page about 2/3 horizontally across the page, with breaks landing in mid sentence. It never used to do this. The previous transcription format wasn't all that great either, and needed a certain amount of cleanup, but this latest glitch makes the transcribed text almost impossible to work with. Needless to say this is very annoying, as I use the transcript feature a lot. Could this problem please be addressed?1.2KViews1like28CommentsI'm unable to rename a file after copying it from another sub-folder on my Mac.
Having this issue over the past several months. Saw another thread where others were having the same issue, but that thread was locked. I copy a file from one subfolder in Dropbox to another subfolder on my Sonoma 14.5 Mac, (Dropbox v199.4.6287) and then I can't rename the file. This doesn't happen every time, but has happened a couple of times in the last 4 months since Jan 2024, and may have started happening before that. Other files in the same folder have the Dropbox Quick Actions context menu items when I right click on them. This file does not. I can open the file, change contents, and save, and that works. I can copy the file with a ctrl-c / cntrl-v in the same folder, and then the copy of the file appears to inherit the same problem, I can't rename it either. I can delete the file. A menu item "Do not sync" is not available in the right click menu for this specific file, although not in the Dropbox Quick Actions section of the right click menu. If I quit the Dropbox app, still can't rename the file, start Dropbox back up, still can't rename the file. Force quitting the Finder, which then automatically restarts, all the finder windows ... does work! So letting others know this is a workaround for this problem rather than rebooting the whole computer, which also works. But this does appear to be a bug around something with file copying in Dropbox folders, unless it's a Mac OS level bug. I noticed after restarting the Finder that the little green circle with the check-box next to the filename is back, which wasn't showing before, so there was something going on with Dropbox integration with the finder perhaps.1.9KViews0likes13Comments
