Online-only thumbnail preview for Mac may be solved (link), but Windows?
Just found this response from an engineer at db, which thankfully differs from the utterly useless responses from "db staff" over the years. https://www.dropboxforum.com/discussions/101001012/cant-preview-photos-in-dropbox-folder-when-files-are-online-only/826416 Now I haven't found anything new regarding Windows. Which of course, the modern smouldering dumpster fire that is Windows may have it's own insurmountable barriers to solving this, but one can dream of a better world... radical_exponent, do you have any insights? Folder Customization - Colors, Icons, and More
Wouldnât it be amazing if we could customize our Dropbox folders to make them more visually appealing and easier to organize? I think adding more options to personalize folders could make a big difference, and Iâd love to hear what others think about this idea! Here are a few features Iâd suggest: Folder Colors: Imagine being able to color-code your foldersâso much easier to spot what you need at a glance! Custom Icons: A simple icon, like a music note for your playlists or a book for your eBooks, could make folders feel more intuitive. This icon could be applied to the already existing folder image, or replace the folder with just an icon. Upload Your Own Images: Personalize your workspace with photos or unique images as folder coversâpractical and fun! These tweaks wouldnât just look great; theyâd make organizing and navigating files so much smoother. Plus, other platforms already offer similar options, and it would be awesome to see Dropbox join in! I have a parent folder with an automation that's supposed to rename every file in its subfolders to a certain format, but it's been very buggy on if it actually works or not... I don't know if it's just bugged or if there is a solution. I'm using file requests in every child folder if that helps.Can I select all files uploaded on a particular date?
As part of an attempt to move a Photoshop Elements catalogue, I moved thousands of photos out of Dropbox for safekeeping, offline so they'd stay intact on other computers and in the cloud. Then after installing the program I did the work to prepare for the photos to be indexed. Then I moved the photos back into Dropbox but forgot to take the computer offline, so all 27.5K+ files have now synced to the Cloud. But because they had the same names I now have the originals and copies. Is there a way I can identify all the Dropbox files that were uploaded today, or any particular date, so I can delete only the copies?
If I move a shared document, will it also get moved for the owner?
A co-worker shared a doc with me. I'm using dropbox on the web. When I'm editing this doc I have an option in my sidebar that reads "Give this doc a home" with a "Move to Folder" button under it. I'm not very familiar with dropbox and I don't want to do anything that is going to relocate the document from the perspective of the guy who shared it. Yeah I know that's unlikely but I can't take the chance and I can't find any information on this anywhere. Can someone confirm that this will only alter the location of the document in my own folder structure and will not in any way alter the location from the perspective of the owner? Thanks in advance,
Allow uploaders to add comments or descriptions with File Requests
Summary I'd love to see an option for people uploading files via a Dropbox File Request to include a short comment or description with their upload. Why this matters This would be incredibly helpful for providing context â especially when receiving files from multiple people (like resumes, signed forms, or project files). Right now, thereâs no way for the uploader to explain what the file is about, and that can lead to confusion or extra follow-up. How it could work During the file upload process, there could be an optional text field where the sender can briefly explain the file's purpose, content, or any special notes. Benefits Easier file organization Less follow-up needed to clarify uploads Improved collaboration, especially for teams or clients submitting documents I think it would make File Requests even more powerful and user-friendly.
