I purchased a new computer and am running Windows. When I start my computer a box pops up that says "Dropbox Can't Open". It gives the error message of C:Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\dropbox_error-r3btez.txt I checked my firewall security and it is allowing Dropbox. I have talked to Geek Squad and they could not find the issue. Any suggestions on what the issue is and what I can do to fix it would be appreciated.7Views0likes3CommentsI can't open my desktop app settings, so that I can move my Dropbox folder to an external drive.
This has been happening since my last computer... What I would like to do is sync my dropbox to save to my external drive; however, I cannot access the dropbox app to go to sync settings and trying to simply move it doesn't work. Settings for this are not avaiable online and im worried that if i uninstall the app I'll lose all my saved folders that I've pinned on my computer (which i guess I can just re add) I've tried looking at my antivirus software as well, but that didn't help as dropbox doesn't seem to be blocked. this would free up a ton of storage, so please help!32Views0likes3CommentsDropbox External Drive Backup - Changing Computers
I’ve just found out when you change Laptop / Desktop you can’t continue to use the same external hard drive with Dropbox Backup. This is absolute madness. If you want to continue to use that hard drive with Dropbox Backup you have to re upload the full HD. I have 2TB used on a 4TB external SSD and I’ve just changed to a new MacBook. I’m having to spend three days uploading / backing-up all my data again just to continue to use that same drive with the new device. What a waste of energy, electricity, data and bandwidth. For no reason. My old backup is sitting there in my account with all the same data and I just have to re-upload 2TB of the exact same files for no reason other than Dropbox can’t set up a way to re-link an external hard drive on on a new system. I can’t believe this is the current state of affairs for this service.557Views2likes8CommentsIssue restoring a backup from Dropbox down to my computer
Dear dropbox, This is my first time using this service, even though I have heard about it for a long time. My PC was recently compromised so I had to use some sort of online backup service, as I couldnt use normal Windows backup. So I backed up nearly 200gb of my essential folders such as dekstop downloads etc. Upon having a freshly installed Windows 11, I try now regain my files and put them back onto my device. But what am I met with? Absolute brain damage. 1. Why on earth is it so difficult and confusing, to simply DOWNLOAD THE FILES BACK TO THEIR RESPECTIVE FOLDERS, that they literally synced from. Why is it I try to restore my backup, and it tells me its going to create another bloody backup for what???? Then instead of downloading my files back to my local folders, it creates more backups, syncing for no reason like its under the influence of class A drugs, and is confusing my applications. For instance as I produce music, I used FL studio. Because of this amazing service, FL studio now has not [removed] Idea what files are what, in fact now im struggling to get the application to load, because of some stupid ass sync mark on the application. And if I DONT sync them they literally wont run. I click on the files and select "make available offline" repeatedly and nothing happens. As you can probably tell I'm close to losing it. Please can anyone give me advice as I simply just want to take my files FROM dropbox, BACK to my computer where they are "syncing" from, because apparently dropbox is incapable of such basic asks. Hello all, Dropbox user since decades back. I'm on Mac Silicon (M1 laptop, 8GB RAM). Dropbox takes up ≈5GB out of my 8. Obviously a problem, and googling around reveals that this has plagued Dropbox since at least 2021. I know there are thousands of users suffering from this, and I also know I can restart Dropbox every morning to keep it in check - but I was wondering if anyone actually found a longterm solution? Data: MacOS 11.6 8GB RAM Dropbox version 208.4.5824 Selective Sync on (Only sync about half of my folders) Amount of files in Dropbox: around 43'000 files&folders Most folders "online only" (to save HDD space) Dropbox Badge: off Symptom: RAM-usage after a Dropbox restart: ≈600MB. RAM-usage after 7 days: ≈4-6GB. (No major changes to Dropbox content during this period) Thanks in advance, / A351Views0likes6CommentsDropbox app doesn't launch automatically in the menu bar (Mac)
Since I updated Dropbox recently, the app no longer launches automatically nor does it appear in the top toolbar whenever I start up my MacBook. I have to manually launch it every time. I have looked at my list of login items in Mac Preferences, and Dropbox is definitely checked. Does anyone know if I can make the app launch automatically again?11Views0likes1CommentThe app re-indexes all files after each restart on Mac.
Each time I restart my Mac, Dropbox goes through reindexing of (seemingly) all files in my folder. The Mac's CPU usage goes up and the fan kicks in - it makes the computer slow for at least 15 minutes. It does finally complete, but it would obviously be much better if this did not happen.13Views0likes3CommentsI've installed the Dropbox for Windows update and now I can't make my files offline anymore.
I just got "upgraded" to the newest version of the Dropbox client for Windows, v213.3.4480. After it did the upgrade, it told me that there was some "new update" for Windows, so (perhaps stupidly) I went ahead and agreed to it. Now, all Dropbox files no longer have a status overlay on the icon, but there is a new column in Windows File Explorer that indicates file status. In essence, it appears they've separated the overlay and assigned them their very own column. The new application gave me a quick "tour" of the new "overlay" icons that have been separated out, which appear to be much the same as the ones that were originally overlaid, just larger and in a separate column. My problem, now, is that everything is coming up "Available," but not "Available Offline" as I originally had them set prior to the upgrade. I never asked Dropbox to change this attribute in any form or fashion, and I didn't give it permission to. I have plenty of space on my HDD, so I can assure you it's not an issue of lacking space. There was otherwise no need to change this attribute. Your help article says that if I want to change the file's availability to "Available Offline" (solid green circle/white check), then I need to go to the file(s) and right-click on them for a context menu and select "Make available offline." The problem is that this item does not exist in the context menu for files in my Dropbox. So, folks, how do I undo Dropbox' wanton disregard for my preference and get it back the way I want it? An answer to this, I feel, is categorically warranted. I await. (I'd upload screenshots, but this forum won't allow uploads, it seems.)69Views0likes6CommentsI get an error message that Windows System Restore failed?
Hi When I run Windows System Restore it fails with this error message System Restore failed to replace the file (D:\Users\*******\Dropbox\.dropbox.cache\qebcobkqbgbzfynfuwbof\placeholder.bat) with its original copy from the restore point. An unspecified error occurred during restore. (0x80070780) I have completed system recovery from an image without problem but on several occasions I have come up against this error when trying to correct a problem using system restore which would be easier to use if I could. I still have the problem if I run the system restore in safe mode with the same failour message Any suggestions on allowing the restore to work RichardSolved29KViews3likes144CommentsSync icons are missing in Explorer on Windows 10
The green icons next to files and folders signifying whether file(s) are on-line or off-line only are no lonher displaring. It was at one time showing a green checkmark or an empty cloud icon, now, nothing. When I rigt click on the file, the dropdown menu still give me the option to choose whether to make available on-line only or local. I'm running Win 10 on a Lenovo T530 Laptop. Any help would be apptrciated. Thanks.Solved36Views0likes8Comments
