Shared Folders
823 TopicsShared folder access with Token
Hi! I seem to have a simple access problem with my Token. I am part of a team which has a shared folder which I am trying to access with the API, and while I have it working for files in my own directory: "MY NAME/Folders/Files" the Token doesn't seem to have access to the: "DATA/Folders/Folders/etc" where DATA is shared with me (both through team membership and explicitly) Eventually I'm simply trying to do a recursive files_list_folders() to analyze the storage. In the app console I have both "files.metadata.read" and "sharing.read" turned on, which should be the relevant permissions (and I did re-generate the Token after changing the permissions). Is there something I am missing? Thanks, Martin49Views0likes1CommentKeep photos added to Family Room out of the Photo tab
I just upgraded to a family account with the idea that I could categorize our photos in different folders “Christmas Photos”, “Family Photos”, each kid with photos from over the years, etc. the expectation was that the family go could into any folder and find photos they want to download or share with extended family/friends. They could do that, but the probably was ALL the photos go into everyone’s Photo Tab. What felt like my kids’ private photo backup area was now cluttered with thousands of photos, so I’m having to keep the categorized photos in my own drive and just share with my wife. All that to say it would be awesome to have the option to exclude photos added to the Family Room from the Photo Tab.30Views0likes0CommentsI don't see the option to unshare a folder, even though I'm the owner
I'm facing some problems when trying to stop sharing several folders I'm the owner. The share icon is present, but I am the only member of this folder. I understand that until I remove myself from the shared folder, it will remains shared; however, I can neither find the option to remove myself from the folder nor the option to "unshare folder". What should I do?? It seems that the issue of unsharing folders is very common on this forum, perhaps indicating that this feature isn't as easy to use as the Dropbox team thinks, or the documentation is not explicit as it should be.4KViews1like46CommentsCan you permanently delete a file in a shared folder without getting the owner to help?
I accidently dropped a file (moved it) into a shared Dropbox folder. I don't own this shared folder. So I subsequently deleted that file from the shared folder because this file has sensitive information that the admin should not see. But when I go to permanently delete that file, it says I need the admin of the shared folder to help. Is there a way to delete this file permanently without having the admin help? I am afraid if I ask for help, the admin may choose to undelete the file and view it.Solved143Views0likes5CommentsI need advice and have questions on folder structures in Dropbox Business
Hi all -- our small organization is a long-time Dropbox user. As such, our file structure predates when Dropbox added Team folders. Currently, all shared folders and each staffer's individual folder is nested under MY folder (as I'm the admin) since that's how it used to work. I know I need to take the time to reorganize our file structure to work with team folders but had a few questions. (FYI we are currently grandfathered under an old Standard plan but I'm likely to change over to Business as it's the same price and has a few more features). I appreciate any feedback on the following questions. Can I move the existing folders out from under my folder and convert them into Teams folders, or do I have to create the equivalent Teams folder and manually move everything? Do people recommend having one main Team folder for a whole organization, and then create subfolders under it for different user groups, or do you recommend having a separate Team folder for each user group (for example, one team folder for all staff, one team folder for senior staff, or all nested together)? The "personal folder" that Dropbox Business creates -- as far as I can tell, unless I upgrade to Business Plus, I have no access to it as the admin. Which means if a staffer leaves, our organization loses anything they have stored in their personal folder? (Right now because I create a "personal" folder for them under My folder, we still retain access to those files when someone leaves). If I have no admin access, this makes me very uncomfortable as often people will save work files in their named user folder if it's something nobody else needs access to -- but it's still a work file and we want to retain it. People shouldn't be saving truly personal stuff on their work systems anyways. Is there any way to turn off the creation of this "personal folder" when you create a new user? Thank you for any advice or suggestions - I appreciate them in advance.24Views0likes3Commentslink generates error (400), but copy-paste works
I have sent an email containing a view-only link to a folder that I own. When a recipient clicks the link, they get error (400) but if they copy and paste the link into their browser, the link takes them to the folder. I've never had this problem before. This is a regular folder (i.e. I'm not a Teams user). The total size of the files in the folder is about 700KB.Solved39Views0likes3CommentsOption for Clients to "star" or "favorite" Images
The option for Clients to "star" or "favorite" Images in a shared folder would be insanely useful. It's surprising this still hasn't been added yet as a feature. Especially given the introduction of Replay for video feedback, and the fact that commenting already exists for photos and stars exist for internal favorites—all we need is the option for external clients to also "star" photos the way they can comment on photos. Currently, we have to use third-party programs to share photo proofs with clients just so they can select the images they want to purchase. Comments alone are too cumbersome when there's hundreds of images to go through. One tiny addition of a star would make Dropbox for photos unbeatable!397Views5likes2CommentsGive us the ability to hide the names/emails of members in shared folders.
The hide feature for viewer visibility is strictly for link sharing. Turning off this feature still enables all members inside the folder to view each others emails and names. This is a problem for years and still no new feature added to remedy this issue. It is a HUGE issue when you have 100+ clients agents and not being able to update 100+ folders every 2nd day if a small update occurs..so adding all the emails of the different members (agents etc..) isnt possible for 1 folder only. Since they all can see who else is in the folder (which is a BIG no no)... and no we dont want to share a link..I want to be able to open dropbox, see the folder, click it, view everything, and not be able to see all the competition under the members list. simple just add an option to disable member viewing as well...more than 5 years now and counting..nothing has been done to adress this NEED from the consumer. I pray I am just so misinformed and that there is some feature or setting hiding somewhere to help with this. (8 months ago I was informed by a dropbox member (alicedropbox) that this feature is not available YET, so I hope atleast its being worked on). I am a little frustrated as this will save so much time and effort, being able to edit only one folder after each update or change.32Views0likes2CommentsHow can share folders to a non-team member without adding them to my team?
How can I share a folder with an individual without them being added as a member to our organizations Dropbox account? I want to be able to share a folder without them being added to our team as we would then have to pay for eavh folder shared.571Views0likes6Comments
