Re: How to completely disable Backup function?

How to completely disable Backup function?

I did NOT ask for Backup feature.

Backup just came and messed with my Desktop, not asking for any authorization.

Every time I open Preferences then Backup, Manage, three folders (Desktop, Documents, Download), are already checked. Why???

Now, since every **bleep** morning when I turn on my PC the DropBox Backup asks me to backup two units, two Ram Disks that must NOT be touched at all, I really have enough.

How can I completely disable Backup feature?

Thanks in advance,

Fabio

Hi @el_abuelo, thanks for posting on the Community.

I understand your frustration over the computer backup feature.

Have you tried disabling it using these steps? Did you choose the option afterwards to move the files have to their default locations?

Keep me updated with any progress!

I thought I had been clear... every time I click on "Manage" in Backup tag, I find "Desktop", "Documents" and "Download" already checked.

- If I uncheck that, "Configure" button (I don't have it in english, sorry) is disabled and I cannot continue.

- If I just click on the button, instead, the Backup starts (!!!),

and now it just ruined my Desktop again!!!

Enough.

Please just tell me how to disable backup for good.

Just to clarify, deselecting the folders and then clicking 'Save' doesn't disable the computer backup, since that is the primary method to do so?

If I deselect the three folders, the button in the lower left corner ("Configure", here) is automatically disabled; the right corner one is "Not now".

Okay, so it sounds like it wasn't enabled, since the bottom left button should be 'Set up', which is to enable the backup.

Is it possible the two RAM disks are external drives that are trying to backup to Dropbox using the new feature?

The bottom left button is probably "Set up" in english, although the application here is not in english.

The two ram disks are not external drives, they are ram disks. When I turn off my PC, they can be saved on disk or not, then they are re-created at startup, as it obviously happens for ram disks. Dropbox Backup, if I answered the ram disk must not be managed, just writes a file named ".dropbox.device" in it, and this is NOT desired.

It sounds like they're being detected as external drives, so if you choose not to back those drives up, the dropbox.device file being written to them is a config file to prevent this prompt in the future.

Since you're re-creating these drives each time the computer reboots, the config file is missing, hence the app is checking again about whether or not to back them up.

It's clear: I did NOT ask for Dropbox Backup.

Dropbox Backup function should have the option: ON/OFF.

Otherwise it's a forced thing.
