Re: Can't open OnSong files backed-up in dropbox

Can't open OnSong files backed-up in dropbox

I am using dropbox to back up my OnSong app files (song lyrics with chords above). I can see the song titles in dropbox but cannot open the files. I get a message that there is no app available to open the file (happens on both iPad or MacBook Pro). Directed to the Apple app store, but get message that there is no app that can open the files. Ideas?

Since the OnSong app is linking to Dropbox using the API, there might be an issue with the way that app is uploading or syncing the data.

I'd recommend checking with the dev for more information on this matter.

Hey @jackwarren, thanks for joining our Community!

On your iPad, are you getting this error after downloading the file to the device, or when you try to open it within the Dropbox app? How about the MacBook?

If you can also take a screenshot of the error message, that would be awesome.

Keep me posted!

Hannah: Here is the shot when I try to open the first song listed (below), the second is when I go to the Apple app store to find the app (above). Hope this helps, and thank you. JackScreen Shot 2021-06-29 at 6.15.24 AM.pngScreen Shot 2021-06-29 at 6.15.08 AM.png

Hi @jackwarren, after some brief research on the OnSong app, it appears it's only available for iOS devices, and not the Mac itself, which you why you can't open the file.

As this isn't related to Dropbox, you can try contacting the OnSong developer for further assistance on this matter.

Jay: I did not specify, but files (songs) backed up in dropbox won't open of iPad or iPhone. Thanks, Jack

How are you uploading the files to Dropbox? Is this via the Dropbox mobile app, or through the OnSong app directly?

Jay: Dropbox is one of the alternatives to back up files from within the OnSong app.

To open files with .onsong as the file format you need that software installing on the devices.

Dropbox's job is just to get the files to that device after that its up to each own devices software to do the rest
