Dropbox seems to be in OneDrive, and OneDrive forces you to choose whether to organize your files or increase your storage space.
When you delete files from OneDrive, the contents of Dropbox are also deleted.

Technical support is completely unreliable and I am in trouble!!!

You need to use the OneDrive or Dropbox settings to move the folders to separate locations. Dropbox (and OneDrive) do not automatically configure themselves to sync each others folders it has to be forced and done manually by the end user.
