Cannot open Excel files with the Excel app through Dropbox on iPhone

Cannot open Excel files with the Excel app through Dropbox on iPhone

I use the Dropbox app on my iphone. I used to be able to open excel files in excel by using “open with - excel”. But now it sends me to a screen saying Microsoft Integration wants permission. I hit the Allow button (the only other option available is “learn more”) and it just takes me back to the list of files in Dropbox. I can never get past that. I used to be able to open them from the Excel app as well, but not now. What has changed and what can I do?

Thank you.
In the meantime I have worked out how to use the OFFICE 365 app which was suggested by a previous user.
Open the 365app, press on the top left corner (your icon) of the screen, a menu comes in, click the “storage accounts”, choose which dropbox you want and then which Excel sheet. It opens for editing in Excel.

Hi there, @Mr Groovyblues, welcome to our Community.

I just tested this on my end and I don't seem to be having this issue.

Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling both the Excel and the Dropbox app, to see if that helps?

Keep me posted.

@Mr Groovyblues, hope it’s OK to jump in. Did you also clear the Dropbox app’s cache, before reinstalling?

If not, please follow these steps and let me know if they help at all:

1) Clear the cache on your Dropbox app.

To clear your cache, please follow the steps listed below:

Navigate to the “Account” tab

Tap the gear icon in the upper-left corner of the screen

Scroll to the bottom of the screen

Select “Clear Cache” under "Privacy"

2) Uninstall the Dropbox App

3) Sign out from the App Store

4) Restart your device

5) Sign into the App Store

6) Download and Install Dropbox

7) Try to sign into your Dropbox account.

If not, I’d like to know the Dropbox and Microsoft Excel app versions you’re using.

Hi. Have just tried that twice and still no joy. When excel tries to open it comes back to a Dropbox page which says “Microsoft Office Integration would like access to the files and folders in your Dropbox. Learn more” and below this is a button “Allow” when I click that it goes back to the file list in Excel app. And when I click in a file to open it goes to the dropbox page. So the circle cannot be broken.

HI @Mr Groovyblues, could you try disconnecting the Excel app from your account on this page, and try opening an Excel file on the mobile app again?

Hi folks. Thanks for all the help so far but it still isn’t working. It is always trying to get me to link to Office Integration and when I click Allow it doesn’t change anything.
On the page you linked, I disconnected Excel and Dropbox Integration but no joy. When I click on an excel file in Dropbox it opens as a preview in Dropbox, but it won’t open in Excel. When I try to open it via the Excel app nothing happens at all.
I now cannot find Excel in the Dropbox App Store, only Office and Office 365.

Seeing as there seems to be something about Office Integration, I note is settings there is something about Native File Integration. Should I do that? But it says I will lose files so that is something I defo so NOT want to do in my opinion, unless you all think that is ok and the problem.

Could you clarify what you mean by the native files integration? A screenshot of this would help greatly.

I can’t put the screen shot here, for some reason, but I decided to try it anyway. No change.
