Dropbox Paper leave a shared document or folder
I am having a problem, I read an article about how to manage projects using paper, the article had a link to a sample Paper Document, I clicked on it and I was added to the Document list of people wh...

Glad to help figure out a solution to this.
Just keep in mind that you can Archive or Restore a Paper document, if you have Owner or Editor access. On the other hand, because only the owner of the Paper document can remove users or Permanently delete the document, I ‘d suggest reaching out to them, so that they remove you from it, if you you don’t want to sync it to your account.
I’d like to point out though that, as for the time being, Paper documents don’t take up any space on your account, so you can have as many as you like, without worrying about any space issues.
If you need more details about it, just let me know here.
Cheers,

Hi -- I don't find that this solution answers my question. I share Dropbox Paper notes with many other people at work. When people leave a training session, they are annoyed by the many shared documents -- but when they archive them, they are archived for me, too, and I still need them. How can I keep them as normal and have that person remove *themselves* from the shared document so they don't clutter the other person's Paper workspace?

Hi there,
it´s now 2020 and I have completly the same problem. Clicked on an old Paper Dokument link to see if there are still important infos for me. After that I wanted to delete it from my list or leave it, so that I don´t have to see it in my list anymore. The answers are still the same like here. "Ask the owner to kick you out or "archive" it. Archiving doesn´t help, it just keeps being there. Absolutly useless and bad experience. I feel the same. I also will never click anymore on a paper dokument and I´m also thinking to leave Dropbox completly and go with another cloud system as I feel they are cutting my freedoms here. 2 years later and no solution. :D That´s insane. I think if the owner changed his email address or just don´t answer, you will be aaaaaaalways in that paper dokument. And yes. I also got pre prepared mails and stuff where they are ass friendly and talk about god and the world but the problem is still there. Also 2 years after.
Very satisfying.
Regards, the guy who´s stuck forever in a paper dokument. :)

Double that.
This Issue and the fact that Dropbox and Papers Folder structures are seperated.
And just to steal a march on the incoming auto-reply: Any hints to the „share idea“-Thread is unnecessary. This issues are years old, people are craving and tons of pro-users don't use paper because of these two inconsistent elements.
I would never cancel my pro-account because dropbox has become essential for my daily life.
But no development on years old features, that seem to make a difference for a huge part of the community. And to be honest: this massive amount of just a few but heavily used textexpander-like sentences from the team - premade standard auto-replys – feel like an insult to any paying client .
Best regards
Benedikt

Can we please get a definitive answer to this problem. What's the plan of the Dropbox Team? if you are no longer interested in supporting the product then it's better to be upfront with users and let them know before they invest more time in it and add more documents which would make the migration more difficult down the line.
Can you please be a little more transparent / responsible?Thank you

I've added an idea that covers this topic here.
- Jane7 years agoDropbox StaffHey cdstars & LukeHowellDev, please accept my apologies for the slight delay in getting back in touch with you. Initially I’d like to thank you for sharing your thoughts on our Forum!Following, I’d like to follow-up with both & try to figure out a solution that would help you better organize your accounts according to your needs. When it comes to your question LukeHowellDev, you may keep in mind that you could just Unfollow the doc by un-ckecking the Follow option from the menu that appears in the ellipsis icon (i.e. I’m just re-iterating my suggestion above).
Following, based on your description cdstars, it would be best for you to create a Template & remove all members once your training is over. (Note: I’ve created a walkthrough here that could be useful.) This way, they’ll be able to keep a copy & see your changes during you training, while your docs won’t clutter their workspace once your sessions are over.
Please let me know how you get on with these options & I’ll make sure to check back with you asap. Wishing you both a great weekend ahead & thanks again for posting us your questions on the Community!- DF646 years agoNew member | Level 2
This issue is making me not use Paper at all, as my organization is HUGE and I can't get rid of all the junk that is shared with me! I can't even choose to "unfollow" a folder. Gonna use a different platform. Too bad.

Hello! I'm facing the same problem as people above - I'm not able to remove myself from the shared document.
Is there any work being done on the topic?
re. unfollowing: I did unfollow a document that was shared with me, but it still appears in "Home" in the list of documents.
- Jane7 years agoDropbox StaffHey AlexSimkin, to re-phrase my initial suggestions, if you’re an Editor, you can Archive the doc for everyone accessing it, though if you have Viewer rights you can ask the Owner to remove you if you’d like to de-clutter your workspace. That said, it would be worth noting that I’ve already made sure to pass your comments on to our team specialists, as your thoughts help us better understand your needs & I’ve added your voice to the feedback gathered internally.Other than that, I'm always here in case you’d like to continue this discussion in more depth. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day ahead!
