Delete, edit, and organize
Solve issues with deleting, editing, and organizing files and folders in your Dropbox account with support from the Dropbox Community.
I recently moved the location of my Dropbox. It is on the same drive only instead of the default path I move it to the root of the drive. Now my shortcuts on my desktop do not work. I get the error "directory name is invalid". If I look at the properties it shows the shortcut is trying to open from the old path which is not longer valid. I can open the file from my new path just fine.
I cannot delete the shortcut because it wants to delete the link/file everywhere. At least I think that is what is trying to do. How do I either change the path in the shortcut to the correct one or delete the shortcut and preserve the original file?
Walter,
Not sure what happened. It went away. I was playing with the file I neded in Dropbox so maybe I saved it and that fixed it. All the shortcuts and files got fixed. Strange.
Thanks,
Joe
Hi @Joeb1; welcome to our Community!
It seems that you enabled the computer backup feature when you moved your Dropbox folder.
Just to make sure we're on the same page, can you let me know what the app is reporting in your system tray and if this happens with all of your desktop's shortcuts?
Thanks!
Walter
