The ability to preserve, view, sort by, etc the original Creation Dates(and other metadata) of files is missing or severely limited in the Dropbox mobile apps. People who donât use Dropbox primarily for business purposes on a computer but, as many of us do these days, use our smartphones as our primary(or only) method of keeping track of media/documents/audio files/etc are having to deal with the frustrating situation of trying and failing to backup/reorganize/download to another mobile device/etc our files without losing this extremely important file metadata. I canât even view ANY file information on non-photo files, and the photos are difficult to even upload with a title that reflects the actual creation date. If not uploaded at a painful 1 image at a time (and many times not even then) the file name will be changed to the upload date/time. The creation date is ALWAYS listed as the upload time or the last time that it was moved, downloaded, re-uploaded, etc. Thereâs no sort by CREATION date, only sort by Modification date which is just a complete denial of basic file management for those of us who manage all of our files on mobile phones and tablets. We desperately need full file information accessibility for Dropbox mobile apps⊠ESPECIALLY the ability to preserve and sort by the ORIGINAL file creation dates⊠and to not lose access to those creation dates when moved, renamed, downloaded, re-uploaded, etc, but to keep them intact despite all modifications. Creation dates and modification dates can be preserved separately without sacrificing one for the other, as long as the filesâ metadata remains intact.6KViews21likes24CommentsDocuments aren't sorted correctly in Paper
Sad to say that there are numerous bugs in a once wonderful Paper, but perhaps the most annoying one is files no longer sorted based on when they were last open. I now get random files from years ago showing up in the list when I log in to the app or web, and have to search every time to find the most recent file I updated. It's extremely frustrating, and clear that the app is falling apart at an alarming rate.12Views0likes1CommentFile date changing
Hi I have seen a number of posts about DropBox changing file dates to "date modified" which appears to be the date the file was uploaded to DropBox. This is weird because if you are just uploading and downloading files from one computer to another you want the original date to be retained. The date of the uploading is mostly irrelevant. For searching based on date the file was created/last edited is what I need to maintain my records by date created/edited. This happens when I use the app of the web and add files to a DropBox folder the date it was added is saved as the modified date. It gets stranger because when I download to another computer I can restore the original file date if SmartSync is on and set to local but this worked for Excel files but not for PDFs! BTW I am using Windows 10 on both computers. I could not work out behaviour from previous posts. thanks for any help3.5KViews1like8CommentsDisable "Suggested from your activity" permanently
Hi there, I absolutely hate the feature "Suggested from your activity". I would like to see a checkbox in settings that allows a user to disable that permanently and have the cleanest possible view of file(lists) and folders. The "Suggested from your activity" feature always shows my family photos or, like today, a preview of my tax form. Whenever I open dropbox in the office to browse my files, all my work colleges can see these previews too. The icon that hides it, is only remembering the setting as long as one does not delete cookies from the browser. At our company, it is policy to delete cookies every day at the end of the day. So this "hiding" setting is pretty useless for me. More over, please make it possible to have a clean, minimalistic UI without all the fluff, super big blue buttons and "easy access" helpers. Some people don't need it. It is distracting and disturbing.25KViews77likes34CommentsAI driven organization of documents
As a Dropbox consumer user, I want to have my scanned documents automatically organized based on content. Use case: I have a ton of paper mail, as well as downloaded statements from credit cards. I want to scan all my paper mail using my Epson document scanner which drops the PDFs into a preselected folder in my Dropbox account. I want an AI to look at the documents (bills, statements, etc) and organize them into a folder structure that makes it easy to find them. The folder structure creation could be through a guided journey or a recommendation after uploading some minimum number of documents. Then, all subsequent mail I receive will automatically be placed into the correct folder upon scanning. Success criteria: uploaded documents are sorted into the correct folders Considerations: since there are sensitive documents being uploaded, the context for the AI agent must be kept to my account, or the data used to teach a common model must be depersonalized before use. GTM opportunity: partner with ADF scanner manufacturers currently supporting Dropbox. This service will easily support a Premium add on ~$15 a month.49Views2likes2CommentsThe starred items on my Android mobile app appear in a random order.
Any idea why the starred items on my app homepage, which always previously displayed by most recently modified, are now in completely random order...? Even when I click to view all they're just all over the place, no rhyme or reason for the sorting. :/ I've restarted the app and cleared the cache several times. ------------------------ It would be very helpful to have the option to select which directories to include or exclude in the "Photos" section. We often store images or screenshots in specific folders, and these end up mixed in with our main photos, creating visual clutter. Being able to limit the display to only the directories that actually contain photos would help maintain a more organized and focused experience. The option for Clients to "star" or "favorite" Images in a shared folder would be insanely useful. It's surprising this still hasn't been added yet as a feature. Especially given the introduction of Replay for video feedback, and the fact that commenting already exists for photos and stars exist for internal favoritesâall we need is the option for external clients to also "star" photos the way they can comment on photos. Currently, we have to use third-party programs to share photo proofs with clients just so they can select the images they want to purchase. Comments alone are too cumbersome when there's hundreds of images to go through. One tiny addition of a star would make Dropbox for photos unbeatable!430Views5likes3CommentsSorting folders by date created
Dear Dropbox developers, First of all, I really love how Dropbox is always innovating and always coming with new cool features, thanks for that! However, I am struggling with a problem for some time now. I have a lot of folders which I really need to sort on the date I created these folders, could you guys enable this function? I would appreciate it a lot! Thanks in advance. Cheers! Marijn757Views1like4Comments
