Unable to delete Dropbox shared folder from my account because of deadlock (no storage capacity left

Unable to delete Dropbox shared folder from my account because of deadlock (no storage capacity left

I’ll think I’m in a deadlock situation.

I have used 104% of my Dropbox storage space.

I have several shared folders which I no longer need. However I removed myself as owner in the past (not knowing the shared folder still exists in my Drobox account).

I like to delete these shared folders. This is however not possible because I’m no longer a member/owner of the shared folder. But because I don’t have any storage capacity left, I’m not able to re-connect to these shared folders (as an owner) to be able to delete these shared folders.

Question: how can I remove (shared) folders from my account which consume all my storage space

Hi @epicurean vegetarian, if you're not seeing the option to delete this, is it possible that quota is being used up elsewhere?

Could you check the Dropbox Backup page to see if you have a backup running?

Hey there @dnalor, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

If you had completely removed your access from those shared folders, they wouldn't be taking up space in your account.

Do you maybe see them listed on this page?

Keep me posted!

Hi Walter,

Thanks for your quick response.

Yes I see them on "this page"

Hey @dnalor, if you see them on this page and you click on the "..." (ellipsis) icon on the right hand side, what options do you see?

Hi @Hannah, I was able to use the "Unshare" option with which I regained control over the folder.

Now I have removed these no longer required folders from my DropBox. However I have still over 9 Gb of "Backup" storage in use.

How is this "Backup" folder/space controlled? Where can I find details what backup this folder is capturing?

Hi Hannah, the backup mystery is solved. I wasn't aware of the DropBox backup (beta) utility. Because of whatever reason, most likely because I agreed 😊, my Garmin device was backed up. I removed this device and deleted the backup file to recover my DropBox space. Thanks for all your help. Regards, Roland

I can see that page hut I still cannot delete it because I have to join the group but I can't because it says I do not have enough storage.  I am in a never ending death loop I cannot get out of.
