Re: Rename and delete options now missing when viewing a PDF file

Rename and delete options now missing when viewing a PDF file

I always used to like the ability to rename and delete a file from within the built-in PDF viewer. Why did this feature get removed? Now if I'm in a folder with lots of files that start with a similar name there's more chance of renaming or deleting the wrong one compared to before when you did it whilst viewing the file. I don't understand the logic of removing this useful functionality?

Hey @Alan R.4, thanks for reaching out to the Dropbox Community.

Are you referring to the PDF editing feature on our website?

If so, thank you for your feedback. We really appreciate you taking the time to post this and I will make sure to pass it along to our team.

If you want, you can also submit your feedback specifically for this feature, from the option at the bottom right corner of the page, when editing a PDF.

Thanks and let me know if you have any questions!

Hi @Hannah - no I'm referring to when you open a PDF in the Android app. You used to be able to rename or delete it from the 3 dots menu.

Hi @Alan R.4!

You should still be able to rename/delete your files this way.

Do you mind sharing a screenshot with me of the options you see now, so that I can have a look?

@Nancy sure - please see pic below.  As you will notice the rename and delete options have been removed compared to previously. It changed a few months ago, I only got round to posting about it now.

Thanks for the screenshot here, Alan.

That's strange indeed, because I'm testing this on my end and I can see both the delete and the rename options.

Are you on the latest iOS and Dropbox version as well?

If so, can you tap on "account", then on the gear icon and then on "clear cache", to see if that helps?

Hi @Hannah - no, as mentioned I'm using the latest Android version, not iOS. I've tried clearing application cache but to no avail. Just to check, you are looking at when in the PDF view of the file aren't you? As I say that's where it has disappeared from, it's still there if done from the main files list but as per my OP that has the whole issue of being sure you have the right file if it's a long filename and it used to work in both scenarios.

My apologies, Alan, I meant to type 'OS', not 'iOS', sorry for that.

This appears to indeed be expected behavior for some file types.

I understand where you're coming from, though, and I will pass your feedback and comments along to our team.

If you need anything else, make sure to let us know.

Hi @Hannah thanks for your reply. As I say this worked absolutely fine until a few months ago so is a clear regression in functionality and to be frank is quite annoying! Would you please ask the development team why they removed this previously very useful function? I can't see any reason for it and would appreciate if you would feed it back as an issue/bug report to them. I'm happy for them to contact me directly if they wish to discuss it in more detail.

Hi @Hannah - I'm not sure if it was related to this thread and you feeding back to colleagues, but I was delighted to see the rename option appears to have returned in the Android Dropbox app v330.2.2 ðŸ˜€
