Unable to Edit shared files on Linux

Unable to Edit shared files on Linux

I am on Linux Mint 20.3 Cinnamon. Dropbox client v184.4.6543 Someone has shared a folder with me which is read only. Within this folder is a document that I have write permissions to. In linux I cannot edit this. If I try to change the permissions, they are immediately changed back to read-only. Thanks

Yes, there are a few methods of sharing a file, and when it's on the shared files page, then it can only be accessed from that page, and edited on the Dropbox site directly.

Just to check, do you require any further assistance on this matter?

Hi @Murray6, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

It isn't possible to add, edit or delete any item within a read-only shared folder.

Could you clarify how they specified this file to have edit access? Are you referring to editing the file from this page?

This will help me to assist further!

Yes they shared from the page you have listed. I have tried editing it online in excel online and I can edit it.

Hey @Murray6, sorry to jump in here, but could you clarify if this is an individual shared file or a file within a shared folder?

Also, can you clarify how exactly you have edit rights on this file if it was shared via a read-only folder with you?

So this is both. The folder is shared with me as read only. Then one document in the folder is changed to "can edit" I cannot edit this file on linux. I have since tested it on Android and I cannot edit it there either. However if I use the web interface and edit it in Excel online, the changes do go through. Thanks,
