Re: Dropbox icon perpetually shows sync in MacOS Sonoma but sync is complete

Sync is getting stuck and won't complete

Sync never finishes,  Every morning I check the status in the Dropbox app.  It's the same 26GB that never completes.  I am only using 32% of my Dropbox account, so it's not the size.  I'm up to date on payment.

Is there a way to see a single concise list of the files/folders it is trying to sync?  Either in the Dropbox app or via a browser at the Dropbox site?

Thank you, Peter

Followed this but there is no cache folder. I am struggling to get some folders to update to make the files available locally, not online. Been having lots of problems with Dropbox the last few days. It says syncing but nothing happens. Local changes not reflected on dropbox.com. Tried reinstalling, tried changing selective sync, even tried copying out the files and . Seems super unstable. Would love to have more verbose command line option to view exacly what the osx app is working on at any given time.

Update. Some of the files in the same folder has icons for both Available offline and Online only. At the same time. That is truly weird.

The menu bar also shows the Syncing icon, and the status says Syncing but it doesnt show the normal number of files it it working on. Do not sure what is going on, if anything.

Hey @mskogly, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Can you please let us know which version of the Dropbox app you're running, by hovering over your Dropbox icon, and what your computer's OS version is?

If you give Dropbox full disk access, does it help with the syncing issue?

OSx v 13.1 (22C65)
Dropbox version 18.4.5678

I believe the access is set correctly. Dropbox is writing to the folders just fine, it is just hung up in some way.
I left it running overnight but it is still in Syncing mode, says synchronizing 1 file, same as when I left work yesterday.

Hi @mskogly, are you able to see which file isn't able to sync from within Finder?

Hello

I have an Intel iMac just updated to Sonoma.

The dropbox appears to work and sync as normal, it's just that the icon on the menu bar at the top of the screen perpetually shows sync.

Anyone else had this issue?

Is there a new build which solves this?

Thank you

Hey @Octothorpe, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Can you share with us the exact sync status and version of the Dropbox app, as shown when you hover over the Dropbox icon in your menu bar?

Hey @Hannah

It's 183.4.7058

When it first happened with whatever version I had, I downloaded this other version but it still stays perpetually on sync.

Thank you

After digging a bit, and finding instructions for setting permissions for my specific version of osx, I was able to get it working again. So yes, just a permission issue. The instructions I found first mentioned settings I couldnt find on my machine, plus the OS language (Norwegian) didn´t help.

Hi @Octothorpe, if you access your Dropbox folder, do you see your files and folders being up to date?

What does your syncing status report at the moment?
