I'm trying to move my Dropbox contents from my Macbook's local storage to an external RAID (Lacie 6Big Thunderbolt 3). Overnight I was able to copy the contents of the dropbox folder across to the RAID by changing the "Dropbox Folder Location" in sync settings. The files moved across ok although Dropbox suggests it still needs to sync these files - "Syncing 250,724 files". This number isn't moving. Is there something I should have done differently in order to set this up?
Note: I understand the risks using Dropbox with an external drive and have set up an automation to close Dropbox prior to ejecting the harddrive.
Hi @Tobyh, it does sound like the Dropbox desktop application is still attempting to sync the files across. We'd recommend waiting for the process to continue.

Hey @Tobyh, thanks for letting us know about this.
Is syncing still stuck on this specific number of files?
What's the current syncing status and Dropbox version, when you hover your mouse over the Dropbox icon in your menu bar?
Have you tried to quit the Dropbox app and then restart it, to see if that helps?
Keep me posted.

Hi @Hannah
Thanks for your response. The syncing has since moved to 245, 884 files - a significant amount. I take it I'll just need to wait for the Dropbox app to catch up? I almost feel like it would have been quicker to completely uninstall/reinstall and redownload the files.
Yes I have done a restart since moving the files to the RAID. My dropbox is v151.4.4304.

Hi Jay/Hannah,
I left Dropbox to sync overnight and it was able to 'relink' the files that had previous been local on my Macbook. I don't think the '250,000' was an accurate representation of the sync status as it had hardly moved throughout the day whilst using the computer.
For anyone curious, I have been able to successfully move, sync and use Dropbox on a Lacie 6big Thunderbolt 3 RAID with a RAID 5.
