MAC desktop, stuck on indexing after upgrade to DB app

I've been using Dropbox for years in rudimentary manner. Yesterday installed desktop app which shows indexing 21,242 files. Using Monterey 12.6.1 and chip is Apple M1. After install of DB app v172.4.7555, it as predicted moved the Dropbox folder from Favorites to Locations. Most files show an empty white cloud with no background(no check mark, no arrow, etc.). When right clicking such a file it does NOT show the option of Make Available Off Line which is what I was used to previously. These files sow Zero Bytes. Some other files look "normal" with Cloud and down arrow and menu option to Make Available Offline; however clicking Make Available does NOT download file. Using only <400GB of DB which is simple personal account.

Other info:
1) In ~/Library/Cloudstorage/ It shows a Dropbox file with icon and with Date Modified of Dec. 31, 1969
2) I tried these trouble shooting steps in other threads:
       A) Log out of website; quit desktop. B) Reboot computer.
        C) I deleted the desktop app, and downloaded and reinstalled. Note during install I was not asked any ?s, nor was I asked to install as administrator.
3) Checking MAC system preferences: DB has Full Disk Access
4) I don't do anything exotic with computer; usually let all apps install to their default locations.
5) Yesterday, so that with MSWord for MAC I also installed Onedrive so I'd have better versioning of Word and Excel files. Onedrive seems to be functioning well.
6) While I rarely use DB website, my files and account there look normal.
7) I just created a test document and saved it to Dropbox folder; closed the file. Found it in Finder, but unable to open it.

Thanks for any assistance.

Hey liteheart1, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Is your application currently still stuck on indexing the same number of files, or is it moving just very very slowly?

What do you currently see, when you hover your mouse over your Dropbox icon?

Can you also go through this article, to make sure you've tried all the suggestions, to see if they help?

    Keep me posted.

      Thanks Hannah

      1) Is your application currently still stuck on indexing the same number of files, or is it moving just very very slowly? Moving up (this morning the number is indexing 21,404 so > last night).

      2) What do you currently see, when you hover your mouse over your Dropbox iconDropbox 172.4.7555  Indexing 21,404 files ...

      3) Can you also go through this article, to make sure you've tried all the suggestions, to see if they help? None of that helped nor were any of the obvious things e.g. interrnet connection/speed; auto update Date&Time problematic. Did not go through linked article at bottom "visit our advanced trouble shooting page"
      New additional info
      A) I have DB on iPhone which has NOT been updated AND I use it extremely rarely. Also on MAC mini and MACbook, neither of which have been updated to this newest DB app for MAC; neither of these devices has been turned on since my update of DB app on iMac.
      B) Locally, I created a new test document, saved to Root of local DB default location then closed file: It shows up locally showing an icon (dotted line medium grey creating an empty cloud). Neither this file or similar 12KB file show on DB website. Attempting to open file from last night from Recents within MSword for MAC, failed to open; after about 5 minutes there was popup from DB indicating it was still trying to download file and did I wish to Continue Waiting. Thus essentially whatever I save to DB is lost.

Hi there liteheart1, sorry to jump in here and thanks for all the additional information you've shared with us so far.

The most recent stable version of the desktop app was just released; could you update to that from this page directly and let us know if syncing gets stuck again?

In case it does, I'd appreciate a screenshot too.

Edit:  Never mind.  I've been fighting this for three days, and 10 minutes after I post this question Dropbox just decides to start syncing correctly.  (Ain't that how it works...)  Consider this solved and ignore.

My account is a Dropbox Pro account.  Desktop sync works fine on all Windows devices, but a problem exists on my Mac-and just my Mac.

After a fresh re-install of Mac OS X Big Sur 11.7.6 and the Dropbox client, it is able to log into my account, but immediately gets stuck on "Indexing..." even with no files synced yet.  I have waited for over 8 hours to make sure it isn't just a long-running task.  I am only trying to sync about 2 GB worth of data.

    What I have tried:

    • Reinstall Dropbox itself (multiple times)
    • Sign out and back into the client app (multiple times)
    • Given full disk access to Dropbox in System Preferences

I am running the latest Dropbox, version 173.4.6706.  Dropbox is NOT located in the /Library/Cloud Storage folder.

Is this a just me problem, or is this widespread?
