Finalizing taking forever

Thank you, actually, I did switch from Firefox to Safari and that worked...

Hi BobF1, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Could you try switching browsers to see if this helps?
Otherwise, you can try using incognito/private browsing mode without any extensions running, clearing your cache and even resetting your browser entirely.
Keep me updated with any progress!

Asking user to switch browsers is BS. It should work in all browsers.

This problem has seriously gotten out of hand.
I can only upload via Firefox (not Safari) when I go through and clear my cache and history... then re-login... then its only the first file. Second file = back to never finalizing.
Quite a few folks have told me that they are done with Dropbox lately for this very reason. One good friend / colleague just decided its over with dropbox on a recent video project we were both working on while trying to share files. I too might be done. It sucks, because I have so much stuff uploaded and organized... it makes me ill to think of having to move elsewhere, but **bleep**... Dropbox you are famous for this crap at this point... why would you not address this issue?
My renewal is in August... although this site is barely usable now... if this issue hasn't been fixed by then I'm definitely gone

Hello,
For what it's worth... Just experienced the same issue with Firefox for large files. Dropbox works well in Firefox for small-medium sized files but for a few large zip files (compressed trading data - 970 MB, 1.5 GB), I am getting the prolonged "Finalizing..." problem. Per this thread, I tried in Chrome and it worked fine.
Kind regards,
Matt

Same problem. I shouldn't have to switch browsers. I use Firefox for a reason. Dropbox, please fix this issue.
- DropoxSince20082 years agoHelpful | Level 5I experience the same problem. This is not a problem with Firefox, Dropbox needs to fix their code to make it work in all browsers.

Hello,
How do you get DBox to work properly with firefox? You mentioned private mode, extensions etc - what is the cause and how can you make FF work properly? I don't want to have ot remember to switch browsers just for this task, as I run into this every week.

Currently about 50% of the time it works, sometimes after 1 hr it's still "finalizing" and I have to Refresh and re-do the upload, after which it uploads fine.

This is unacceptable solution. I am having more and more issues with Dropbox despite $25/month!
Perhaps time to move somewhere else, I don't even care if it's going to be more expensive as long as it works, I don't have time for BS.
Another issue is that DBox doesn't upload files that are 0 byte size, some apps may create those files for whatever reason, and genius DBox developers are unable to handle them. Yes I have heard the crap that the history of file requires at least 1 byte in the file, but that's BS again, developers are taking the company hostage to keep their job, they may lose it faster.

Why on earth is it so difficult to upload large files on Dropbox? That is the basic function of dropbox and as a paid service it ought to do it seamlessly, without struggling, or make me struggle. I am having systematic issues when uploading a 2.5 GB video file using Chrome on my Windows computer. The upload seems going well, the progress bar is near the end, when the upload frame displays "Finalizing..." and stays there FOREVER! What is it finalizing? Why is it failing? Can it just store my file? I don't care about some features like versioning or whatever else, I just need the file to be stored so I can have a backup or share it with others. WHY IS THAT SO PAINFUL?!!!!
And please don't propose me to change my browser, or the OS, or the computer, or go live on another planet, no BS please if you don't have a valid solution. I am looking for a permanent solution, not to engage in a philosophical or existential discussion. Thanks for your understanding.

I very much appreciate BobF1 doing good humanitarian work and posting a usable workaround.
But DropBox: this is not "solved". You're a cross-platform developer, and it's been a year. Hup hup.

Same problem. I pay for this service. Can you fix it please?
- huyness9 months agoCollaborator | Level 10
they're never going to fix this. this problem is over 5 years old on all platforms and browsers. Dropbox has one job and they do it poorly. the problem is that it only affects a few peopel so they do not care.
- BobF19 months agoHelpful | Level 6
My solution has been simply to not use it.
