Won't stop indexing on Mac
I installed the mac dropbox update and the application began indexing my files. It has now been stuck for the last few days. I can only access some files. Many are now only available through dropbox....

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your patience while we investigated. We have confirmed that the problem with resyncing has been resolved with macOS Sonoma 14.1. Users should not experience a resync when upgrading to 14.1.
Upgrading to 14.1 will prevent resyncing, but it will not resolve this issue for users who have already become 'stuck' on the resync upon upgrading to 14.0. We can help, but we're asking that users contact support for individual assistance.
Regards,
Ben

Same problem.
MacOS: Sonoma 14
DropBox: v183.4.7058
Everything seems to be indexed. But it's hanging on Synchronization.
The folder is located in the standard location: CloudStorage
Full Disk Access = enabled
All files that are in the "on-line only" are not opened.
If I edit files on my laptop, nothing is updated on the server.
If I upload files through a browser to the server, they are NOT available on the computer!
I rebooted, logged out, etc. Does not work!
You must fix it urgently!!!!

Same here. When it did finally finish, it had created a new "conflicted copies" folder in my Dropbox and moved 100s of files and folders from a shared Dropbox folder into it. Took hours to fix. No one at dropbox beta tested upgrading to the new MacOS 14 release?

Hi all,
I've fixed the issue. I restarted my computer and let dropbox start indexing again. Then I used the dropbox icon in my quick access bar to sign out of dropbox completely. Waited a little and then restarted my dropbox by signing in again. This began a whole other round of updates for all my files, but once finished, the dropbox issue is gone. I can now access all my files the way I did before. I did have to reissue it permission (through system settings) to allow it to access and make changes to HD.
Hope this helps someone,
- korall2 years agoHelpful | Level 5I would really like to find a way to make this work on Sonoma 14. But it seems like we’re out in the cold.

It seems to be working, but I'm not in a hurry to rejoice.
Either the operating system indexed itself to the end or the Dropbox servers tweaked something. Leave your computer on for a couple of days so that it doesn't go into hibernation mode.
I also connected via VPN and different modes of operation, about 10 reboots of the computer. Paused DropBox, etc. Today it feels like it has come back to life. I assume that maybe the servers have been tweaked or the operating system itself has "come to life".

I have the same issue. Syncing appears to have stopped, and furthermore, the syncing phase doesn't seem to have completed after Sonoma was installed. I tried contacting official support, but they advised me to reinstall the app or log out. I replied that I don't think it's appropriate, as it seems like a silly bug clearly caused by Sonoma. With all the money I'm paying, hasn't this OS been properly tested with Dropbox?
- Sam DBX2 years agoCommunity ManagerHi all,Sam from Community here ✋🏽Just to let you know that we've brought this to our team's attention, and we are aware of this issue: If a Dropbox user using File Provider upgrades to macOS 14.0, they might experience a one-time file resync, which could take several hours, at the very least. If it takes long enough, it might appear as if you are "stuck syncing."So far, the indications are that this only affects users who were on File Provider at some point while on macOS 12.5 to macOS 13.2 and have now updated to macOS 14.0. Unfortunately, this isn't something within Dropbox's control to fix, but we'll update you once we have news. What can you do for now?
- If you find yourself stuck syncing for more than 4 hours (and don't have over 300K files), please consider restarting your computer.
- If you're still experiencing the issue a couple of hours after the restart, you can open a support ticket so that we can investigate further.

I was on File Provider on Mac OS 13.6 as well, took longer than 4 hours with 280K files, restarts didn't help.
Support then told me to do a hard reinstall that involved terminal commands that didn't work, and telling me to reinstall dropbox but selecting the CloudStorage folder as file location... which the install doesn't allow. All in all it feels like Dropbox themselves also don't have a clue of their product.
So I gave up, removed my dropbox folder from cloudstorage, removed Dropbox, did a fresh install, synced all files to the default documents folder (not CloudStorage), and then did the move to CloudStorage all over again.
All this including the removing of unlimited storage due to lame reasons... so disappointing

I have the same issue. Been indexing for 2 days and nothing is syncing. Lots of errors in the status icons.

I'm signing up for the updates regarding this issue, which I am also experiencing.
I upgraded from macOS 13.6 to macOS 14.0. The day after, Dropbox re-indexed all my files without noticing, and it took a few hours draining my battery fast. And then, after it seemed to be completed, it's been stuck on "Synchronisation" (in French) for over a week, although it does not seem to be using CPU any longer and I can still add new files which get synced on Dropbox. It nevertheless says "Synchronisation".
Dropbox is on version 184.4.6543.
I also noticed that I can no longer see the previews (such as image thumbnails) for almost all of my online-only files. I'm not sure it's related, as I think it started to happen before the update.
Thank you, looking forward for Apple or Dropbox to fix this 🙂
