I installed Dropbox on my second computer and my used Dropbox space doubled

I have Dropbox Basic, connected to just one device. There was 1.3 GB of space used in my Dropbox account.

I got a new computer, installed Dropbox there. Now there is 2.6 GB of space used in my Dropbox account, and Dropbox is telling me I'm out of space (since I only have 2GB available).

I can see backups of both "PC" and "PC (2)" on Dropbox online. Using selective sync, I have chosen for Dropbox NOT to store the "PC" folder on my second computer.

I don't understand why this is happening, because the files that got copied into the "PC (2)" folder on my second computer are literally the same ones from "PC". I don't know why my used storage space has doubled. This seems like an easy thing to fix/turn off, but I've searched and haven't found anything.

  • Hey RyanH1, welcome aboard the Dropbox Community.

It sounds like you've enabled the backup feature on your computers. This will add and backup your desktop files to Dropbox, thus take up your space.

If you want, you can disable this feature and move your files back to their original locations.

Let me know how it goes.

This worked perfectly. Thanks for the help, Hannah. I'm not sure how I missed this difference, but I'll know for next time.
