Start offline, but after time go online

Question is in the subject... and here is why.

I had dropbox client on main disk (C:) and syncing on external USB drive (D:)

When drive was disconnected, the client assumed I deleted everything and done that accordingly.

Now, I am syncing to the main drive and (because of lost trust) backing up to external drive.

But main drive is SSD with limited capacity (smaller than my account).

Now I would like to start all files offline, so the backup software backs the up.

And after a period (day, week, month) the files would/should go online if not used.

Is that doable?

  • Hey BixiSLO, thanks for using Dropbox and happy Friday!

Let me start by saying that what you described is one of the reasons we strongly recommend against using an external drive to store your Dropbox folder.

As for your request, there's no way to achieve that with Dropbox at this time as files won't become online only automatically after a period of time - you'd need to do it manually.

If you'd like to though, you can select which folders you'll be syncing locally to your device upon (re)installing the app via the advanced options.

I hope this helps a tad and please let us know if you have any other questions.
