Migrating to a new pc with changed file structure

My old pc ha the Dropbox folder on the D drive. Within it are stored data from myself and two other users of the computer. However, the file structure inside this folder is a mess. I plan to make the file structure simpler and more logical on the new pc.

I will selectively restore data from an external HD to the the correct folders in the new pc. These folders will be placed inside the Dropbox folder. My question is; when I install and sign into my account and then sync from the new pc what happens? Does the new folder overwrite what is stored in my Dropbox cloud? This is what I want

  • Hi there Colin9, thanks for using Dropbox and welcome to the Community!

You shouldn't have to go through this process as there's a feature which would help you achieve what you had in mind. It's called selective sync and you can find out all about it here

You could also change your account's file or folder structure through the website and then install the desktop app on your new computer and let it sync your changes until it's up to date in your system tray

    I hope this helps!

Hi Jo39, the easiest method would be to find an app or service that can directly connect from Dropbox to OneDrive in order to transfer files between the two.
