Issues with creating new folders on the mobile app and missing a 'select all' option when uploading

DropBox
I don’t understand how in 2024 app developers make users do so many unnecessary tasks, clicks, and repetitive stuff. Here are 2 examples of how DropBox users have to do frustrating stuff:

1) Creating a New Folder
• After tapping on the “+ Folder” button, the folder name automatically defaults to “New Folder” and it’s not highlighted. So users have to click the “X” to clear the default folder name or click and press the backspace/delete 10 times to finally input the desired folder name. No one on the planet will ever have numerous folders named “New Folder”. I can understand how a user would need rapid folder addition and no time to input a name so why not just have the default folder name highlighted so users can simply start typing a folder name versus being forced into clicking on the “X” or manually deleting the letters 10 times.

2) Uploading Photos from a Specific Album and there’s No Option For “SELECT ALL”!!!
• this by far is the most annoying issue I have with DropBox. Why a company as big as DropBox can’t get this done is absolutely absurd. So I want to upload 150 pictures in a specific photo album; I click “Upload Photos”, navigate to the desired album, and now I have to either individually select allllll 150+ (up to 400) or press and hold the first photo and then scroll (while still pressing) until every single photo is selected. WHY IS THERE NOT A “SELECT ALL” FEATURE? Users are smart enough (through app restrictions like maximum 400 upload limit) to have albums with just 400 photos so we can have some sense of quickness in a restricted/limited filled app. There’s no reason why users have to spend so much time on repetitive tasks in this day and age.

Both issues stated I’m sure DropBox is thinking “oh this user is just an angry idiot,” no, you should try doing all the stupid repetitive stuff mentioned here while having Parkinson’s Disease, a Muscular Skeletal Disease and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. But even if I didn’t have any of these diseases, I’d still be aggravated by the numerous repetitive and unnecessary stuff in the DropBox app. Being a retired IT Programmer and Engineer, I can’t believe that no one has the initiative to enhance the functionality of the DropBox app and being former Military Special Ops, some stuff I don’t have the patience to deal with anymore. This is the 3rd time in 10 years that I’ve brought this same crap up to your technical team; I’ll be looking at other companies and closing my account within the next month.

Hi Zyrios - thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.

Just to clarify, when it comes to your first point, can you please clarify if you're using the Dropbox mobile app on an iOS or an Android device?

I just gave it a go on my Android device and when creating a new folder the name was already selected - that's why I'm asking.

Any additional information is more than welcome!

    Hi Zyrios,

iOS engineer on the Mobile Home / Photos team here. Thanks for the detailed writeup.

Good point about the new folder name. That's a problem we should be able to address in a relatively straightforward manner. The 400 photo limit is a known issue, and we're looking into whether Apple has resolved it as of iOS 18.

The lack of a "select all" button for selecting photos from albums is, unfortunately, out of our hands. That's a native Apple-provided interface for interacting with a user's photo library, and we have no way of altering it short of rewriting the whole interface from scratch.
