Okay, so it sounds like you're accessing the avatar on the Dropbox website, instead of the Dropbox desktop application, as you're not seeing it on the menu bar.
Could you try reinstalling the Dropbox desktop application, without uninstalling it, by clicking this link?

It looks like it is working for now. Thank you very much. I did not do anything on my iPhone and it seems like that is syncing as well.
