How can I take ownership of shared files?

I'm taking over a role and the person who is handing over to me has all of the files on their dropbox which we have shared. they want to delete the files off their drop box. How do i take ownership of those files onto my drop box?

  • Hey Dozy139 , let's see what we can find about this!

Can you clarify if you're talking about shared files, or shared folders?

They can always add the files inside a folder, share it with you and then pass you the ownership of the folder following the steps mentioned here.

Want to give it a go, and let me know how it turns out?

    Keep me posted!

If the files are in a shared folder, ask the current owner to transfer ownership of the folder to you. If the files aren't currently in a shared folder, create a new folder, invite the other person to it, and ask them to move the files into the folder.

Once ownership is transferred or they've moved the files into your own shared folder that you're the owner of, they can leave the share and the files will be removed from their account.
