How to restore Backup files?

Wow, just wow.

So many moving parts.

 

My hard drive failed last week. I had Dropbox backing up my files so no worries, right? Except I can’t restore my backup files. Only Dropbox-stored files are accessible. I spoke to Mr. Chatbot who sent me to an installation page rather than a restore instruction page. Support consists of Community-amsered pages. 800 employees? How do I get to a support human?

 

Seeing all the new ways this Dropbox full service platform will complicate my life, I am seriously re-evaluating my almost 2-decade relationship at renewal on November 20.

 

At this point all I want is to have all my files in my Macintosh with Dropbox cloud capability and extricate myself from the backup schema. I tried to do that for my husband’s connection in June and managed to delete all his files, which took me a couple of weeks to recover. Boy, was he mad at me. 

 

Don’t chalk it up to an “old fuddy-duddy” Boomer. I’m a retired university technologist who used to own a computer company. 

 

If this is the only way to cry out for help, this is it.

    Hi JanieWC , thanks for bringing this to our attention.

     

    It sounds like you've enabled the computer backup feature. When you say that you can't restore these files, can you let me know the steps you've followed on your end?

     

    Could you try disabling the Backup feature by following these steps and choose the option to 'Keep content in folders on this Mac' if you haven't already?

     

    Keep me updated with any progress!
