I am trying to move shared folders, not created by me, I was told this is possible without affecting the content or other users. However when I try to move a shared folder it duplicates in the place of destination as a non-shared folder, and stays in its original place. Had anyone had this problem and found a solution?Solved40Views0likes5CommentsCan I select all files uploaded on a particular date?
As part of an attempt to move a Photoshop Elements catalogue, I moved thousands of photos out of Dropbox for safekeeping, offline so they'd stay intact on other computers and in the cloud. Then after installing the program I did the work to prepare for the photos to be indexed. Then I moved the photos back into Dropbox but forgot to take the computer offline, so all 27.5K+ files have now synced to the Cloud. But because they had the same names I now have the originals and copies. Is there a way I can identify all the Dropbox files that were uploaded today, or any particular date, so I can delete only the copies?18Views0likes2CommentsNaming conventions are sometimes buggy in subfolders.
I have a parent folder with an automation that's supposed to rename every file in its subfolders to a certain format, but it's been very buggy on if it actually works or not... I don't know if it's just bugged or if there is a solution. I'm using file requests in every child folder if that helps.161Views1like21CommentsIf I move a shared document, will it also get moved for the owner?
A co-worker shared a doc with me. I'm using dropbox on the web. When I'm editing this doc I have an option in my sidebar that reads "Give this doc a home" with a "Move to Folder" button under it. I'm not very familiar with dropbox and I don't want to do anything that is going to relocate the document from the perspective of the guy who shared it. Yeah I know that's unlikely but I can't take the chance and I can't find any information on this anywhere. Can someone confirm that this will only alter the location of the document in my own folder structure and will not in any way alter the location from the perspective of the owner? At the moment when you want to move or copy files/folders, you get sent back to the root directory. This becomes tedious when the files or folders that you want to move are already in the same location. I keep getting sent back to the beginning, when what I am working with is right in front of me. My current workaround is using the search functionality, but this change would do wonders for the user interface when working on the phone.31Views0likes3CommentsHow can I see the full path of files found in search?
When you search for a file show the full path of that file so we can understand where it is located. Right now, after finding the file and clicking on it, it shows only the folder it is in and one additional level up. There is no button or option that says "Show Full Path," so there seems to be no way to see the full file path to understand the location. Stop hiding the full path, show it by default, or at least put an option there to show the full path. There is a secret way to do it, but you have to know where to click. It is not obvious and easy.756Views1like2CommentsAllow uploaders to add comments or descriptions with File Requests
Summary I'd love to see an option for people uploading files via a Dropbox File Request to include a short comment or description with their upload. Why this matters This would be incredibly helpful for providing context — especially when receiving files from multiple people (like resumes, signed forms, or project files). Right now, there’s no way for the uploader to explain what the file is about, and that can lead to confusion or extra follow-up. How it could work During the file upload process, there could be an optional text field where the sender can briefly explain the file's purpose, content, or any special notes. Benefits Easier file organization Less follow-up needed to clarify uploads Improved collaboration, especially for teams or clients submitting documents I think it would make File Requests even more powerful and user-friendly.18Views1like1CommentImprove tags experience
I recently started using tags, and they're incredibly useful, but there is a simple feature which I really miss in the experience when using the search feature. Add "file info" as a context manu in search results: I don't see any way to edit tags when I find a file through search, which looks like a very big omission. Simply adding "File info" to the context menu would fix this. [Edit: This thread has been edited by moderators due to two suggestions in one post]37Views0likes5Comments
