How can I restore files using the Dropbox cache folder?

i have a dropbox cache which i can see because i have hidden files viewable on my computer running win11. i need to recover these files locally because my original dropbox account is no longer active after not being able to manage it due to extended hospitalization. dropbox support stated i had enough time to respond to queries about them permanently deleting my locked account which in itself is an abuse against the disabled community. but i would like a way to recover these files locally so i can start a new db account and upload them to sync. thanks

Hi chadbosemanuniversity, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

The Dropbox cache folder should only contain a few files as it is used during the syncing process. It also automatically empties after three days.

You can try copying the files out of the folder to another location to see if you can recover any of these files, though there is no guarantee that all your files are visible or accessible from there.

If you have any further queries, feel free to message back.

Just to echo what Jay said, when Dropbox deletes an unused account it doesn't delete anything locally on the device. So you shouldn't need to use anything to get the files back - they will all be on the \Dropbox folder itself as long as they have sync'd and are set to local
