Files that I shared with view-only rights have disappeared from my Dropbox account.
Files that I have shared with view only access have disappeared, but theyr're still accessible through the shared view only link with the file saying my account isn't the file owner. From what I understood Files can only be moved or deleted by non-file owners through a link with edit permissions - am I wrong?
I'm hoping to be able to restore my files back into my Dropbox as I only intended to share these files for others to view and download, with no ability to edit the file.

That means you didnt upload and share it in first place. The file links couldn't work if they were not in your account. www.dropbox.com/events may give a clue as to what happened.
You are correct, however that if is a read only link nobody can update/change or edit them unless the owner AND only to the link on the website, if somebody has 'added to Dropbox' they do not update on those machines.
You should be able to re-download again, however, via the link.
