Hi there, Dropbox does not complete installation on a new Win 11 install that has been fully updated. This is the latest error code: I've tried different things for 2-3 days no and nothing has worked. I've rebooted, etc ad nauseum between each attempt: Normal install Normal install, run as admin Offline installer Offline installer, run as admin Offline installer run as admin with all antivirus/firewall turned off I'm in China, so tried all the above with and without VPN turned on. Any thoughts?Solved162Views0likes16CommentsAccount giving me two responses when logging in

I think this is new behavior....and maybe, this could be a cause of what some of us are referring to as "quiet crashes" where we notice that the dropbox app is no longer running or showing on the menu bar...on a Mac. When I perform a transfer-a-copy of a file, and it brings up the floating "Transfer" window, and then I complete that process of confirming the file, and then choosing to copy the link, that window will continue to float in front on my mac. Command-W does not close that window. Also, when that window is active, and the front-most window, the computer still indicates that the Finder is the active app on the menubar. Now, I can close that transfer window by clicking on the red "x" button in the upper left of the window, or I can press command-q on my keyboard but THAT QUITS DROPBOX! I think that THIS is potentially what has been problematic of lately. I don't recall this being the behavior in the past. Why is command-q "quitting" the transfer window causing Dropbox App on the menu bar to quit and shutdown? As I said, when the transfer window is active, it does not indicate to the mac that it is part of dorpbox in that it does not populate the options of the mac menu system. The active app is not Dropbox etc. I have been using dropbox for a long time, and I do not recall this being the behavior of closing the transfer window with command-q and it shutting down the whole DropBox system.44Views0likes8CommentsSync results under "Your Activity" show's yesterday's synced files not today's.
I can see syncing occurring with the dropbox notification icon on the Mac. When I look, syncing runs. When it completes, instead of showing what was just synced, it only shows files synced the previous day under the Yesterday heading. Those synced today or moments ago ought to show up under the Today heading, but nothing ever shows there. To be clear, the recently synced files do not show up under Yesterday, either. This seems like a bug. Because dropbox sometimes takes time to get around to syncing on the desktop, I need to be able to check if it recently synced any files. This behavior of never displaying recently synced files in the Your Activity list is disappointing. The image was captured mid-day, less than 10 minutes after syncing a dozen files. Note that Yesterday heading shows files underneath. The Today heading shows none of the files just synced.52Views0likes7CommentsHow do you add a password to files and/or folders to keep it secured?
So, Dropbox got rid of the vault feature last month. The question now becomes, how do you add a password to files and/or folders to keep it secured? At a minimum, Windows lets you password protect a file, so if Dropbox can't even do that now what's the point of it? Additionally, I am logged out of Dropbox on my computer, but can still access my Dropbox drive from My Computer. With the vault gone, how do I make sure that these files are only accessible either on Dropbox website or only if I'm logged in?15Views0likes1CommentSetting folders to Online-Only has left countless orphaned files on Mac OS
I have a folder in Dropbox called "~ ~ 0 DropBox Only." For ease of reference, I'm just going to call it "Dropbox Only." It contains many many folders that I intended to make online-only, having started with all Dropbox folders being synced normally. I had assumed that the local hard-drive based files would disappear. What I did not realize is that the folder structures and file names were not removed. It took me quite some time to realize this. As a result, I saved a number of files into folders in the Dropbox Only folder. In Finder, what I see is that files in the Dropbox Only folder (which could be several layers down in the folder structure) have either a cloud with a down arrow, a cloud with an exclamation point, or just a cloud. If a file in Dropbox Only is "orphaned," has a cloud with down arrow, and I try to open it, I get "Couldn't communicate with a helper application. Try your operation again. If that fails, quit and relaunch the application and try again." If it has a cloud with an exclamation, then I get "The document "xxxx" could not be opened. Try your operation again. If that fails, quit and relaunch the application and try again." If I try to open the "orphaned" file from within an application, the application often hangs or has other issues. Files and Folders added since the shift to online only-behave normally. I likely have thousands of "orphaned" files. I would happily just delete the folders, but at this point, I have many important files that have been added to some of these folders which I cannot afford to lose. If I could visually identify the "orphaned" files by their cloud status, that would help, but an "orphaned" file and a regular file that is not currently synced both show a cloud with a downward arrow. I'm tempted to change the status of the Dropbox Only folder to normal syncing, but (1) I don't know what will happen to files added since the syncing change and (2) I doubt I have enough disk space to hold the full contents of Dropbox Only. I am just looking for general guidance that allows me to either remove large numbers of "orphaned" files or restore them to normal syncing. Also, if I do successfully restore a sub-folder to normal syncing and then want to move it back to online-only, do I need to go through and delete all the affected file and folder entries on my hard drive? Presumably, the hard-drive versions are all "orphaned" at this point? With certain critical folders, I have renamed folder xxxx to xxxx_B on the hard drive. I then download the Dropbox version of xxxx. I find that xxxx and xxxx-B do not have all the same file and sub-folder names, so I have to painfully go through and check them against each other. This solution will not scale up to cover the thousands of files and folders. For now, I just use the xxxx folder, and if I am missing something, I look for it in the xxxx_B folder and move it to the xxxx folder. This is all a horrible mess, and I am just trying to find a way forward. Any help or thoughts are appreciated. macOS Sequoia 15.3.214Views0likes1CommentCannot sign in to Dropbox desktop app on new Windows laptop
I'm having trouble getting Dropbox to work on a customers device. It's a brand new Win11 laptop. They have a business-subscription with several seats, of which they are the administrator. I can log in to the Web Portal without issues. Installing and signing in into the app from other devices also works. Whenever I try to sign in to the app on that laptop, it appears to try to log in before it suddenly restarts itself and is logged out again, just long enough for the Dropbox folder to be added in windows explorer, without contents. When I click on "Open Dropbox" in the login page, Dropbox sometimes gives me the error "Couldn't complete sign in. Please try again.", however I'm unsure if this is actually related. I have tried to follow these troubleshooting steps already: Performing an advanced reinstall according to the guide provided by Dropbox Setting fully reset, blank MS Edge as default browser, so the login page opens there instead Resetting the account password Deleting duplicate entries of registered devices Uninstalling the app (with extra steps according to advanced reinstall) and installing the MS-Store-version instead I'm at my wits end. I'd hate to have to try to reset the device entirely only to face the same issue again. Kind regardsSolved70Views0likes5CommentsI made a folder online-only, but if I delete it from my computer, it gets removed from Dropbox.
I have reviewed the discussion questions and didn't see what is needed. My laptop storage is almost depleted. I have marked a folder (using File Explorer) as Online Only. When I tried to delete the folder from my laptop using file explorer, I received a message saying it would also be deleted from my Dropbox Account. How can I make sure the folder does not delete from the online Dropbox system. Thanks LloydSolved91Views0likes6CommentsWhy was the way screenshots were handled changed?
Me and my friends question what drove the people behind this software to break something intentionally like that? I work as a Quality Assurance expert, and can only see this change as sabotage. When I press "PrtSc" I want the image to be copied into my clipboard. The fact that it was saved into the screenshots folder wasn't always desired, but I could deal with it (always cleaned up that folder once a month). But now that doesn't happen. I get so many extra steps, and if I opt out of it, I'm left with nothing. Sure, I could just install a different software for making screenshots, but that seems so stupid to do, given what worked before!212Views3likes12CommentsThe Dropbox right-click options are gone from my Mac's Finder.
I recently changed the location of my Dropbox folder and now I no longer have my right-click menu. Dropbox is running and everything has been synced. I've restarted and reinstalled dropbox and it did not fix my issue. Latest version of Dropbox: 221.4.5365 MacOS: 15.446Views0likes6Comments
