Uninstalling
88 TopicsHow to completely uninstall the Dropbox desktop app from my Mac OS
I indicated with a click a year ago that I might like to try a free trial of Dropbox. I tried it, I hated it, and I can't get rid of the damned invasive and intrusive program. Upon opening my MacBook Air, the entire display is covered with Dropbox folders and pop ups screaming that my life would be fulfilled if I tried this or that Dropbox feature. Getting all this Dropbox crap off my screen takes several clicks to close the home screen and the several subscreens and popups blocking my screen. AND: I've searched everywhere on the Dropbox website, and I can't find even the tiniest hint of how to delete the app, or disable it, or block it, or send it to where the sun don't shine. HELP ME OUT OF THIS INTRUSIVE DROPBOX HELL!147Views0likes1CommentI can't remove Dropbox from Windows 10 explorer on old PC
I am cleaning up my old Windows 10 laptop, in order to hand it over to the new owner. Obviously I don't want the new owner to be able to access my drop box, so I need to remove it. However, whatever I try, it keeps showing up in Windows file explorer. I already tried the solutions proposed in this thread:https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Apps-and-Installations/Can-t-remove-dropbox-folder-icon-from-Win-File-Explorer/m-p/387364#M25771 It didn't work, even after reboot the Dropbox folder still appears infile explorer. How do I get rid of it?? Note 1st thing I tried was Add or Remove programs, and look for Dropbox. It is not in the list of programs.149Views0likes1CommentI can't configure dropbox on Ubuntu 24.04
Hi, I am required to use Dropbox for work on an Ubuntu 24.04 system, which is apparently supported as "Ubuntu 22.10 or higher" I followed the instructions at https://www.dropbox.com/install-linux and it installed and logged me in successfully, and a Dropbox icon appeared in the top bar. It then began syncing all folders with hundreds of GB of data, it wants to copy the entire company Dropbox to my local system. Clicking the Dropbox icon does nothing, it does not respond. I am unable to stop the sync, and unable to configure Dropbox. Uninstalling Dropbox following the instructions at https://help.dropbox.com/installs/uninstall-dropbox failed to stop Dropbox actually running, now there is a zombie process that is still trying to sync hundreds of GB of data to my laptop. Why is this broken, who is responsible for testing this software? How can I repair my system?754Views1like2CommentsDropbox won't run or uninstall - Windows 11
For context, I'm the IT director for an office of 20 users and all are running Dropbox and Windows 11. One user's computer suddenly stopped starting the Dropbox app at startup. When I began to troubleshoot, I found that it also would not uninstall. After several attempts to get it to uninstall, it went through and I reinstalled a clean copy, which then proceeded to have the same issue. I factory restored the device, did a full clean install of everything and it worked perfectly for a day and a half before returning to this issue. The only error message that it brings up is when I try to uninstall the program, it says 'failed to uninstall' but does not give any sort of error code. When I try to start the app, the blue wheel spins for a moment and then goes away as though it is successful - but it's not running. If I go manually start Dropbox, nothing happens. The app will not run or show signs of trying to start up. In the task manager window, you can see Dropbox is 'running' in the background, but at .1% or lower. I have tried starting it in Safe Mode with networking and it still will not start up. All devices are running the same updates and the same security programs and this is the only one that is behaving this way. It's a newer computer (under a year old) and is an i7. All other programs seem to be operating fine. Dropbox version 208.4.5824 Windows 23H2 OS Build 22631.4169300Views0likes3CommentsDropbox creating many instances, uninstaller file is corrupted
Hi, My Dropbox this morning has opened many instances, all using CPU and network, eventually consuming my entire upload bandwidth. (Each instance was using 0.1mbps) My uninstall file was also corrupted so I was not able to remove Dropbox from my computer. Has anyone experienced this before? Does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this?1.5KViews1like6CommentsDeleting Dropbox without losing files on iCloud and OneDrive
I used Dropbox extensively when I ran a consulting company. But now I am retired and do not need Dropbox--just OneDrive on my PC and iCloud on my Mac are enough. Right now Dropbox is frozen and not synching for some time. How do I delete Dropbox on my Mac and still make sure no files are lost? Thank you in advance.217Views0likes1CommentDropbox app on Windows 11 not launching and it gives errors when trying to uninstall/reinstall
On Windows 11 OS, my Dropbox application does not launch (bunch of error messages). I tried repairing it by uninstalling / reinstalling it but I have the error message that the DropboxUninstaller.exe file (in Client folder) is corrupted. Installing Dropbox (without uninstalling) does not work either (error code 0x80004002). Is there any way to retrieve / download a default Dropbox uninstaller exe file? Thanks.1.4KViews0likes12CommentsDropbox asking me to sign in to the app every time I get on my computer - How can I remove it?
Every time I turn on my Mac, this drop box sign in prompt appears (second image below), and there is also a drop box logo in the menu bar on the top right corner of my screen (black strip, first icon in pic below). I never did anything to make this happen, and I cannot get rid of it. I have an old drop box account that I never use. I have no idea how this happened, and have no need for this to appear every time I turn on my computer. I feel hijacked by drop box and I'm really annoyed. Because I don't have a paid plan I can't get any direct help of any kind from drop box. This is really bad and really wrong. I have their stuff on my computer that I can't get rid of and there is no way to ask them for help! Can someone please help me get rid of this? I'd be SO grateful. Thank you so much. 🙏1KViews0likes10Comments
