Hi Support,
With dropbox client v163.4.5456 on Windows 11 22H2 (OS Build 22621.963), I still have the Unspecified Error, while opening a Online only .txt in the Windows 11 File Explporer. (In Windows 10 (21h2 & 22H2), the .txt automatically download, when I open the .txt file).
Can this please be fixed?
I can only open these files, after I download the files, by making them available offline.
Tnx.
Kind regards,
Richie
Just an FYI on this. My client set Microsoft Word as the default txt file program, and it doesn't have the issue. Only when Microsoft Notepad is the default.
It is possible that the client didn't do through testing and didn't realize that the files they were opening were actually downloaded to the computer already. I will follow up with them and see.
I am experiencing the same problem with .jpg files, too. (Win 11 22621.1105, Dropbox 166.4.2920)
Hey folks,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but we have great news!
We have a build here of the desktop application that we believe should fix this issue:
https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-desktop-client-builds/Beta-Build-167-3-4684/td-p/654175
Hope this helps!

I went to the link provided for the Beta and ended up with Dropbox version 167.4.4719 installed. It did not fix the problem for online-only .txt files when trying to open them with Windows 11 Notepad program. I receive "Unspecified error". I can open the file with a different text editor, though.
Hey @asm1974! Thanks for giving that a try.
Before installing the beta app version, did you enable early releases for your Dropbox account via your web preferences here?
Please scroll down that page a bit, toggle the setting On, and try to install the beta app version again.
Let me know how this goes.

Good news! I allowed the early releases in the preferences of my Dropbox account, then I installed the recommended file above. It worked! Thanks for the solution.
