I don't know why I'm getting these emails that tell me "Your Dropbox account has less than 1 GB of storage left." According to my Dropbox account I'm Using 6.26 GB of 9.76 GB. That's a fair amount more than the "less than 1GB" available noted in this email.

I have the same problem:
Dropbox has probably been trying to scam me for months and I find it to be a misleading advertising practice. Remaining in good faith, it could be a bug, but in this case Dropbox has to do something about it.
Since I wanted to communicate with someone from support before publicly attacking the company, I am here waiting for a response.
Having the free plan Dropbox does not allow me to write even one email. If someone with the paid plan can contact support and ask for assistance it would be a great help.
In Italy, AGCOM deals with misleading advertising.

Hey @DG44 and @Federico_C, thanks for reaching out to us.

If you're receiving emails that you have less space available than your actual available space, as shown in the plan tab of your account settings, you'll first need to check if the email address these emails are coming to, is the same as the one you use for your Dropbox account.

It might just mean that you have another account you forgot you had.

If that's not the case, can you please send me a screenshot of the email you received and a screenshot of what you see in the plan tab?

Just make sure to hide any personal info on the screenshots.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, Hannah. Is there a way I can email you the screenshots? Obviously if I hide any personal info, you won't be able to see it.

Hey @DG44, sorry for jumping in. We can look into this without seeing your personal info for the time being.

Feel free to attach your screenshots in this thread (after having removed your personal info) and we’ll check this further. If we need any other info after that, we’ll let you know.

Hey @DG44, thanks for the screenshots!

It seems this email is our usual short of notification when a user's storage is above 50%.

In your case, this seems to be correct since 6.3GB is approximately 64% of your total quota. As for the 1GB left, you can ignore that as a false alarm, and go with what your plan page shows.

Thank you for confirming.

Thank you for the reply. I was waiting for a new email/notification but none of them have arrived these days.
Anyway, I want to know how can be normal to advise people with "You are near the storage limit" if they have 50% free. My uncle and every person who are ignorant about computers fall for it and buy the paid plan when they don't need it.
85% or 90% make more sense.
Need more support?
