Dropbox API Support & Feedback
Find help with the Dropbox API from other developers.
I am currently developing a web application using Next.js where users can access files stored in Dropbox through links.
My goal is to enhance the user experience by allowing links clicked within my app to open directly in the Dropbox desktop app if it is installed on the user's computer. If the desktop app is not available, the link should fallback to open in the Dropbox web interface.
I have tried using custom URL schemes like "dropbox://", but it doesn't seem to consistently open the Dropbox desktop app across different browsers and systems. It would be very helpful if Dropbox provided a more robust or documented way to achieve this functionality.
Could you please guide me if there is a method to check for the Dropbox desktop app and redirect users accordingly, or if there are plans to support such a feature in the future?
Thank you for your support!
Thanks for the post! Dropbox doesn't currently offer an officially supported/documented way of linking into the desktop app like this, but I'll pass this along as a feature request. I can't promise if or when that might be implemented though.
