Delete, edit, and organize
Solve issues with deleting, editing, and organizing files and folders in your Dropbox account with support from the Dropbox Community.
I'm just trying to remove dropbox completely from my computer and remove all of the blue Dropbox icons from my folders on my local hard drive. Though, I don't want anything deleted from my local hard drive. What's strange is that I think everything on my computer is duplicated, I see this when I open up my music program and see two of the same songs next to each other. Can anyone help me remove dropbox completely without looking my folders at their current local state? See pics below for my situation. Thanks.
Hi @gerkman, I hope you're doing well!
If I understand this right, it seems you wish to remove Dropbox from your device, and just keep your hard drive files.
In order for you to do this, you'd need to disable the Backup feature that looks like you're currently using, and then uninstall the app.
Uninstalling the app won't remove your Dropbox folder, so you need to manually delete any files you might not need. Could you also clarify what you meant when you said that you wish to remove Dropbox without looking your folders at their current local state?
Now, as for the duplication, this could be due to the Backup feature. Can you disable it, and see?
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

Thank you so much for your quick reply, Megan!
I was able to uninstall, so we're good there. Now onto the duplicates I see. Hopefully my pictures can explain my situation I'm trying to solve...
Below is what I see on my local hard drive. Dropbox has it's own folder that has everything (possibly) duplicated on my local hard drive.
What I would like to do is remove the Dropbox folder completely. Issue is that it seems as if everything outside of the Dropbox folder is directed to the Dropbox folder. Example:

Somehow this is causing the duplicates that I am seeing. When I go into my music program, the duplicates are directed to two different locations, but when I go into the non-Dropbox folder, it's still pointing to Dropbox.

If you need any more info from me, I'll be at my computer all day to quickly reply back. Will try to troubleshoot on my own in the meantime. Thanks
Here is another example of how the folder outside of the dedicated Dropbox folder is pointing to Dropbox. That is what I am trying to fix.

Hi @gerkman, did you disable Backup before uninstalling the app?
What do you see when visiting your Backup page online? Provided the feature is disabled, could you try following these steps?
