Hello,
It turned out that this folder with 46k+ files in it was somehow moved to my (local) Desktop.
No idea how that happened. It seems that all my files are in there.
Thanks for helping!

Hello Rich,
The folder was synced. It is a folder I have been working from the couple of months.
On the event page, there is nothing about this folder. No trace of deleting or renaming or whatever!
If it isnt on Events then one of three things has happened - it is not, and never has been, on Dropbox, it was a Shared Folder which you have left, or been removed from, OR it has permanently been deleted.
The events page shows every change and update to all files and folders in Dropbox as long as they are not permanently deleted.
Have you looked at Dropbox on the status bar to see what it says if you mouse over its icon?
