Can't see files on Dropbox

Can't see files on Dropbox

I created a file and saved it in my dropbox app, but then could not find the file on another computer in dropbox or on dropbox.com. This happened both with a file in my own folder and in a shared folder. The file has not been moved or deleted and it does not show up in dropbox on my other computer at all. More than 12 hours passed since I created the file and closed the file. Is there a reason the file isn't syncing? I never had this issue before, but now it occurred two days in a row.

Does the file have the usual green check to show that it has synced? Is Dropbox running? What does it say when you hover your cursor over the Dropbox icon in your system tray (Windows) or menu bar (Mac)?

It looks like dropbox wasn't running in the backgroud - I was accessing the files from a shortcut folder on my desktop, but apparently the dropbox app on my computer was inactive... Thank you for your comment! It was very helpful.
