I had to reset my Dropbox password recently and for some reason upon signing in again on my Mac it seems to have duplicated my Dropbox folder. I wasn't aware of this at first but it seems I've been ...

Okay, so the folder name is different. This means that the folder was created on that date, and contained the information on the account from that date.
Since it isn't syncing any longer, you can delete that folder once you're certain all necessary files have been removed from it, if any are missing in the current Dropbox folder.

OK, I've assumed that already. Dropbox has created this issue, I'm just after a simple way of determining which files are in the wrong folder - i.e. *some files that I updated in the old folder thinking it was the live synced Dropbox folder. Is there any way of figuring this out without going through every single folder and subfolder?

No, there wouldn't be a method of doing so via Dropbox, aside from checking the modification dates of files in that folder.
There may be some third party tools or services that could help to compare the files in both locations.

That's a shame. We trust Dropbox with out files and organisation. It's very frustrating to learn that it can break so spectacularly from just changing a password. Perhaps it should be looked in to?
