Re: Trying to create a secure data room with professional account

Trying to create a secure data room with professional account

Hi there,

I've just signed up to the professional account. I've created a folder with files in it. I've changed permissions on all elements of the folder/files so that people cannot share (if they haven't been invited) or download (if they are a viewer).

I'm doing some testing with friends outside of my normal work domain, and even if they're on 'viewer' status, they can download, share, copy etc etc.

I'm truly perplexed as to what I'm doing wrong.

Please help.

Sean

Hi @Seanhitz, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Are you creating a shared link to a folder, or a shared folder?

The former allows you to prevent downloads to files. The latter allows users to add the folder to their own Dropbox account and view it, as well as download and sync it to their local machines.

If you have any further queries, feel free to message back.

I think I must have set up a shared folder (it's a bit confusing when you're new to Dropbox) when actually I just want to share a link to a folder.

Do I need to start again with the folder/files, then just share the links via email in order to get the restrictions I need?

You can just unshare the folder and any files for now. If you also created the shared links, then those should still be active afterwards.
