Png automatically converted to jpg

When I automatically upload a small png image file (320x320 pixel, ~32KB in size), Dropbox automatically converts it to a jpg once uploaded. This is problematic because the png files have transparent backgrounds, whereas changing to jpg creates a white background. There is nothing in my settings that should cause this. How can I fix this problem?

When you say automatically upload, are you referring to the camera upload feature in the mobile app or desktop app, or did you upload it manually?
