Camera Upload Not Syncing New Photos on Iphone

Camera Upload Not Syncing New Photos on Iphone

I have Dropbox installed on my computer, and when I plug in my phone I get the message, "No new images or videos were found on Ashley's iPhone" when in fact there are lots of new images and videos for Dropbox to add to my Camera Upload folder. All my settings are correct on my computer to take the files from my phone and add them to Dropbox, I have enough room in my Dropbox account, I can't seem to figure out why it just hasn't downloaded any new images since March.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks, Ashley

Hi @Supanut L., that's good news for now! Keep an eye out, and let us know how it goes.

Also hey there, @langshipley, I hope you're doing well!

Have you tried any of the troubleshooting steps mentioned above, such as clearing the app's cache, signing out, or uninstalling the app and rebooting your device?

@Megan thank you for your response. If you saw my response to @Hannah above, the answer is yes. That's always the first thing I do when something stops working in an app or browser. If you have any other suggestions that do not include those standard steps, that would be helpful. Thank you.

Hi @langshipley, can you also send me a screenshot of the uploading process of your camera uploads, showing the number it's currently stuck on?

Hi, @Megan apologies for the slow response. Been busy with other stuff and just got round to checking. It would appear that since my last message to you, the app has righted itself and it has started backing up properly to Camera Uploads again. I don't know what's happened because I have not changed anything. I guess that's the mysteries of technology every now and then, eh? Thanks again for your response. I appreciate it.

Ah, @Hannah , speak of the devil. Well, speak of the non-backing up Camera Uploads. The issue has returned. I just tried to back up my photos from today and they are not backing up. What would you like me to do?

It didn't give us a break for long, did it @langshipley

A basic sign out of the app, and clearing the cache through the app's settings would be fantastic. If this doesn't help, please send me a screenshot of the uploading process, in order for us to have visual too. Thanks!

it is really mysterious... i had the not working auto upload too. then the support suggested i should turn upload off and on again and it worked great again, for two weeks or so... now the problem is back - but in my case it only not works when i use mobile data, it works fine when in a WLAN.

so it is not a very big deal, because i can wait for the next WLAN i use - but it is strange, because all other apps work fine on my mobile.

even dropbox works in mobile mode great - i can upload manualy (and very quick), but the auto upload stucks and dont want to work.

a strange problem 🙂

Strange, @dr4.

Have you reached out to either your phone carrier, IT Department, or ISP for more info?

Also, if you are abroad and roaming, your provider may have additional data restrictions that could be causing this issue.

I have an old iPhone 6s, 64GB, re-purposed for another person to use (meaning it has been reset to factory settings). New Apple ID created, new Dropbox Basic account created for this user, installed latest Dropbox version 344.2, running iOS 15.3.1 (the last version supported on this hardware).

I have set Dropbox to upload from the Camera Roll. I have made sure  Background App refresh is turned on. But it never uploads a photo in the background. However, as soon as I bring the Dropbox app to the foreground i.e. display it on the screen, then any photo(s) I took are immediately uploaded to the Dropbox cloud.

I really want the auto upload in background to work for this user. I have done multiple tests by taking a picture and waiting to see if/when it gets uploaded by monitoring the Camera Uploads folder on a Windows web browser signed into the Dropbox account. As noted, it never uploads in the background,; it only uploads when I bring the Drobox app to the foreground on the iPhone.

On  the iPhone, I cleared the cache by deleting the app and reinstalling. My iOS version is later than that required by the app. I have tried running the iPhone on its charger. None of this helped. There is plenty of space on the Dropbox cloud account and on the iPhone itself. I am running on WiFi.

I see from this thread that others have complained recently about a problem with this functionality. Is there still a known problem and if not, what might I try to resolve this?

thanks,

ARJB
