Re: Prompt to open or install Dropbox on logon to Windows by second user.

Prompt to open or install Dropbox on logon to Windows by second user.

I've been using Dropbox Basic on Windows for years now with no real problems. My wife shares the PC with me, has her own Windows 10 account, and does not have a Dropbox account. Recently very time she logs on or switches to her Windows account she gets a pop-up asking her to register or sign in to her Dropbox account. She can't just close the pop-up window; if she does she gets another pop-up and has to choose 'later'.

I've tried disabling 'Open Dropbox on startup' in my Dropbox preferences, which prevents the pop-up for her but also prevents the Dropbox app running on startup when I log in. This is very annoying; why has this only recently started happening and is there anyway round this? Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Hey @smithy_sid, I hope you're doing well!

Do you maybe recall when this behavior started happening?

Also, if you have a screenshot of the pop-up screen your wife sees when entering her user account, I'd love to see it in order for me to have a visual too.

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

Hi Megan

Thnaks for getting back to me so quickly. The behaviour started about 4-5 weeks ago. The version of Dropbox I'm using is 204.4.5420, and I haven't carried out any manual updates. I've tried to attach two png screen grabs. Dropbox01 shows the window that pops up when my wife logs on. Clicking the close box (x) brings up Dropbox02. Clicking on the 'Later' button closes the popup and she can then carry on working normally.

Yes, this was very helpful. It seems to be working. Here is what I did:

1. I logged on from my user (not Admin) account and opened Start-Settings-Apps-Startup
2. I turned off Dropbox. Note: This prompted me to enter my Admin password, which I did.
3. I opened Start-Program List
4. I dragged the Dropbox link to my Desktop
5. I opened c:\Users\MyUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\ where MyUSERNAME was my username (NOT my admin account)
6. I moved  the Dropbox link from Desktop into the above folder

7. I logged off and then on again from my user account. Dropbox loaded automatically.

8. I logged off and my wife logged on with her user account. No pop-up!!

Thanks a lot for all your help. Hope this helps others.
