My macOS desktop app is using 1GB of memory - can I reduce it?

Is there a way to have my files sync on my desktop computers, without consuming almost 1 GB of memory?

I don't care about the other features of the desktop app.

I dislike how prevalent it is to write a webapp and wrap it using Electron. This basically gets your computer to run a chromium web browser, just to run your app. I'm not sure that's what Dropbox did, but the memory usage is similarly weighty as the Slack and Discord apps are.

I use MacOS 10.14 and Fedora latest.

Hi @corncobweb! Thanks for posting on our Community today.

Can you send me a screenshot of the current memory Dropbox is taking up on your computer? I’d like to have a visual and go from there.

I’d also like you to clarify how many files you’re currently syncing by right clicking on your local Dropbox folder and going to “Get info”.

Let me know when you’re ready.

It turns out something had stalled when I had 0.8 GB, but memory usage was still high at 0.6 GB after I quit and reopened dropbox.

Here are some screenshots [removed per Community Guidelines]

Dropbox is currently syncing 1834 files totaling 3 GB.

Is there an option to just run the parts of the Dropbox app that do syncing and give the right click context menu in Finder, while disabling the entire electron-wrapped webapp frontend?

Due to security reasons, we’re not allowed to click on any links, I’m afraid. You can post your screenshots here though by clicking on the following button:

As for your second question, you’d need to use a lightweight third-party Dropbox app for that on your Mac computer (however, this is not something that we can officially support); you can search for it though on your end.
